Maybe he can be a 3rd down option? He is due to make $2.5M next season or would be a cut cost of $1M? - I bet he's cut.

McClain is pretty good with the ball in his hands, we should have been getting him several touches per game IMO. If we don't like him at FB I would like to see what he can do as our #2 RB before cutting him.

Hester was one of the best pass blocking RB's and a pretty solid run blocking FB. He was a special teams stud as well. I think he was playing the wrong position though. He lacked the size and ability to really "create" holes. He could hit the hole (better than RM
) and find someone to block, but the hole had to be there. I dunno, maybe I'm a bias Hester fan, but I thought he was pretty good. Quite frankly, he contributed more than McClain has (and I really loved the McClain signing ).

Kyle Juszczyk, 6'1" 248 lb FB has been impressing with his blocking at the Senior Bowl this week. He gets a little attention as a good receiver too. And he's from Harvard, the NFL factory of the Ivy League!

I never understood the Hester hate. People couldn't seperate the trade up (which was a mistake) from what the player provided to the team.

Bingo. Terrible move to trade to get him. Solid FB.

We need a blocking RB, it doesn't have to be a traditional FB.
As for why our running game succeeded few FBs can block DL effectively. They're supposed to block ILB or Safeties guys in the second level. Our O-line was getting mobed and we had difficulty making holes. Consider we had the two worst rated tackles, an average center, and one below average guard. |

McClain had 14 rushing attempts. If he was a better option than Battle, Brown wouldn't our coaching staff handed him the ball?

Lets worry about the oline before the fullback. Then the CBs. The OLB. Then if mathews can even play a full season. Then we can think fullback.

I can't recall too many instances where McClain was sent in to block for Mathews, or really too many snaps where both were in at the same time...
