lol, you've never seen the guy play though have you? Leg strength is key in all blocking not how much u can bench. The guy is overweight and has all his strength upstairs and doesn't have the drive he used to have. He also comes into camp every year at like 400 pounds and has to be reconditioned, he is living off of rep. That line consisted of Rob Petitti (giant guy believed he weighed about 350, very good run blocker) flozell adams (giant, pro bowler) marco rivera (pro bowler very mobile), and al johnson and allen (pro bowler), but dallas couldn't protect bledsoe or open holes for their talented rb's. Allen is overrated. if a fat run blocker is what you want you should of kept fonoti. The chargers need to draft a guard or tackle and then pick up a young tackle in FA, not spend it on an overrated guard.

Thank You!

could very well be... we all know that the dallas line was unstoppable... i haven't seen much of dallas this year...but larry allen is still a probowler... they lost flozell adams early in the year... which also hurts them... (see what happened to us when we lost oben)... we just weren't consistent... living off his rep? the guy is a monster to run behind. anyway... just was curious on what you all thought about him... i'm kinda neutral... i'd be in favor of it... if, the price tag was right... i obviously don't want an overpaid, overweight, and over the hill player...

well, then we're in agreement

Does anybody remember if it was Larry Allen who attacked the kicker this year? I'm pretty sure it was him, but it might have been another O-lineman.

Run blocking is about leg drive, pass pro is about upper body strength. If you're using your upper body during run blocking, it's called holding.

Man, if you've ever played football, all coaches, players, and generally anyone will tell you it all starts at you're feet and moves up. In pass blocking if you hold you're stance and plant you're feet in a bull rush its you should be using you're legs more than you're arms. Lifting, football, and most sports are all about leg strength and knee bend, not about having enormous bench press #'s. The upper body is used in all blocking no doubt but benching 700 pounds doesn't really help allen when the guy is quicker off the line than him or uses better leverage and technique.

Oh and to the other guy, yes allen lifted his kicker up and shook him like a rag doll, very classy.

Default Sign Larry Allen

Larry Allen is still one of the strongest olines men in the NFL today

he would help block for rivers and bring leadership to our oline...

but i hear the Texans are making a big push for um so who knows...

Doesn't matter how strong or fast you are on the practice field...it's only matters how your Sundays go. Allen is still one of the strongest in the NFL but on sundays it hasn't been translating into a lot of yardage and protection. Igor may be the strongest on our team but how many chargers would you rank ahead of the guy talent-wise? It's not all in the strength, it's in the initiative, stamina, speed, intelligence, and heart also.

Allen may have the Intelligence and the heart, but the rest is fading.
