So I would rank the improvement this offseason as:

1a. Oakland
1b. San Diego
2. Kansas City
3. Denver

That's with the top two making real strides, KC holding serve, and Denver regressing. Thoughts on that? Anyone see it differently?

On paper I agree with Kemp's assessment. However games are not played on paper. We have to see what all these changes mean on the field.

In as far as W-L goes, the Chargers should win that one but only because we won 4 games last year. I can't imagine we won't improve that record by at least 3-4 games. The other three teams will not improve their record by 4 games and only Oakland even has that opportunity.

The reality is that without P. Manning this division could be wide open. For the Chargers it's all about returning to the POs. That wont' happen if we go 0-6 in our D again. So inter-division games are huge for us.

This is the "on paper" time of year.

Well what I was pointing out that what is said on paper doesn't always translate to results on the field. It's a little bit like mock drafts. Nice to speculate and discuss though. More changes likely to happen before September rolls around.

I dont think this thread is going as expected.

Or maybe it is. I never know what to expect from this group.

Even after we see the results of the season we can't agree on everything. How does one expect to agree on something that hasn't happened yet?

Makes for great discussion, otherwise it would be quite boring around here this time of the year.

I think the question we should ask ourselves is this:

Looking at our team situation going into this offseason are we happier than if we were in Oaklands situation going into this offseason and having the kind of signnings and draft they had?

I think Oakland wins, my opinion. The only edge they really had was a ton more cap space to play with. But when you take draft position into consideration I think it washes out.

On paper, I think Denver is a mess. The lack of Jackson, Trevathan and their O-line woes will greatly hinder their overall performance this season.

And Kansas City is cursed worse than us, so it's moot for me.
I think I'll take our team over yours, mess and all.

Good evaluation Kemp, but you left out Manning who I feel is a bigger loss than Osweiler, based on how they played.

Bottom line, does this evaluation relate to where the teams will finish at the end of the season? I think it could, hope it does because I see us and Oakland fighting for first, just have to win the games we should and get lucky on games we shouldn't win, we are do for some good luck.
