Chargers owe Franklin $3.5 million in guaranteed salary this year, but save $3.0 million against the cap.

I would assume that they already asked him to take a reduced salary and he declined... leading to his release.

I'm just hoping Barksdale is next. I'd much rather have Franklin over Barksdale... but that isn't saying much for Franklin either.

I didn't think much of Franklin at LG but hoped he'd replace Barks at RT. Now someone else needs to step up.
The only '16 starter that played well for us was Slauson.
Fluker, Dunlap and Franklin cuts are a nice start. The next string of OTAs May 16 - Jun 9, vet mini camp Jun 13 - 15 should give us a new RT.
Barksdale has too much ground to make up for me to trust.

Absolutely stoked...why mess around? Put the youngins in...addition by subtraction.
Start a whole new attitude along that line.

I'm astonished they never can trade any of these guys they cut. Franklin is not that bad, surely there are teams that could use him - Seattle and Green Bay pop to my mind as teams with OL problems.

This must mean they like what they've seen from the draft picks. I didn't expect this to happen before they ever practiced in pads. Guess they can learn more watching them in shorts and tee shirts that I thought.

Lamp & Feeney showed they belong. They join Slauson & Tuerk in competing for interior starting slots.
I'm excited about our offensive potential if the LG-C-RG prove to be strong & aggressive in games.

The best part about these moves along the oline, and other moves this offseason? Players are on notice...better bring it to camp, cause Lynn ain't afraid to send you packing. I'm sure TT got the nod from Lynn to cut this guy.
Fresh start, fellas...and maybe the last chance to get it right while Rivers is at the helm.
