Of course you need an NFL Qb to make throws, that's why they are in the NFL. You can't have a bad Qb and win a championship. But you can win won with an average one. Your list proves it.

Agreed. Meantime, you can have full on aerial assaults, and not win. How many rings is Marino polishing? Fouts? Favre has a grand total of 1. And unlike the normal Favre, in that game he had 0 picks. Elway has two -- but they both came AFTER Terrell Davis became the focal point of that offense. In those two SB wins combined, Elway threw a total of 1 TD. The other 7 TD's were rushing TD's.

You missed the point. Disect the SB games and you'll find the winning teams didn't win because of Qb play they won because of their respective defenses.

Pitt, NE, GB, NY all had great Ds by the time the POs rolled around.
NO and Indy didn't win a SB until their Ds were up to snuff, despite having two of the best Qbs in the NFL and top rated offenses.

Qbs are glorified in the media and set up as heros or goats. We need heros. But the truth is there are 21 other players on the field at any given time and the contribution of those guys >>> 1 Qb no matter how good he is.

49ers have a great D and no matter who their Qb is they are going to be in this thing. And by the way the 49ers just lost to the Rams with Kap at Qb. He is supposed to be way more dynamic than Smith with a better arm and willing to take more risks with his passes. What happened? The Rams defense happened.

To further solidify the point, don't forget that that turnover was really critical because the Ram's defense kept that game close.

Had that been a 3 possession game, that turnover would not have been such a problem. Of course it still would not have been good, but if the defense was poor, the 49ers just may have marched down field and score again.

He may not be as good as Kapernick, may be a limited passer, but I think we can all agree he isn't garbage. I mean not like he is in the same league as Matt Cassell or Mark Sanchez.
