They are getting old and we need people to replace them if English doesnt step up in his contract year. Hopefully he does since it is his last year to prove him self and has been healthy. CB and Tackle are our biggest needs with pass OLB coming in next.

Our D-line is solid enough already and we need draft picks that can contribute now not in 3-4 years which is how long a 3-4 DT takes to come together. Better to use a late round draft pick on one to replace cam in the future and Cam is becoming a great starter and NT.

Hell I would be happy with a WR if the oppurtunity presented it self with an AJ green type WR that got passed to us. Rivers is getting old and we need a WR where he can get some chemistry with and he will peak in 3-4 years if we get one this year early in the first 3 rounds when Rivers will be older.
I disagree that it would take Star 3-4 years to become a good DT, that is simply absurd. and you act as though I didn't pick a Tackle with any picks, when this is only a first round mock. No Recievers are worth a top 10 pick, you can go ahead and move along to the line of other CMBers who think it is okay to reach for a LT even if he isn't a value at the pick.

Lotulelei is a way better prospect than Lewan. To the point that I don't think he'll be there at 11 at all. But if he were, and Joeckel, Fisher, and Warmack are all gone, it's a no brainer. We'd have to look to OL in the 2nd and FA and it wouldn't be ideal but you can't just decide what you need most and draft it regardless of who is available.

Best case scenario, Fisher is there at 11 and we don't have to choose between talent and need.

granted Cason actually has been a starter, albeit average. I am going to be honest, I do not see this team being better than 8-8 next year, the Defense front 7 is solid, I like what I saw from Ingram, I really liked what I saw from Reyes and Liuget, Butler is a stud, and we have weddle. Jammer is most likely gone, Cason is not a number 1 Corner, and Wright and Gilchrist have shown very little to warrant penciling them in as starters. Taylor could be promising, but again he coming off a torn ACL. the way the chargers did it back in 04-06 was taking the BPA. we lucked out and were terrible the year before a strong QB class, so the BPA was an area of need, the problem is where we started to reach for players because "we were one or two players away from being complete" and those players busted because they were not good.
That's all completely different. We didn't absolutely need a WR in 2006...we already had a young and developing Vincent Jackson, Gates along with some other veterans for a WRs corps. AJ just wanted to take a shot.

We needed a pass rusher but AJ just decided to reach for one in English instead of settling for Cushing or Matthews.

This is different. We NEED an OL. As in, the Chargers will forfeit next season if we don't get a starting caliber OL and go to next season with the same OL as this. I'm not kidding. The NFL Players Association will file a law suit against the Chargers saying that their not doing enough to protect their QBs. Rivers literally has NOBODY blocking for him. NOBODY.

If you can't protect your QB, you can't win in this league. You have be able to protect your QB at least a little bit and our OL can't do that. I'm 100% positive that there are high schools in San Diego who would be able to break through our OL within 3 seconds and get to Rivers easily.

If we are looking at the long term future of rebuilding our team, then go with Star. With him, our D will bet completely set minus the secondary.

But if we are looking to be in the playoffs next year, improve the OL starting 1st round.

Or, we can go with Jonathon Cooper (C), Barrett Jones (C) or Dallas Thomas (G).

Star is a top 5, maybe even top 3 prospect in this draft...no way he's there at 11. I agree we have to go oline in this draft, but if Fisher and Joeckel are not there, the pick has to be either a pass rusher, a cb or warmack. ANother option would be a trade down with someone who wants to take te'o. I can't see his stock dropping that much even after that terrible game against bama. The hype train will push him into the top 20 or top 15, i think. And i see at least one team of ARZ, BUF and NYJ taking a qb like glennon with their first round pick. As i said in kemp's mock draft, Ryan Nassib is who i see as a possibility to Buffalo at pick 8 if he impresses at the combine.

First of all cushings is an ilb, not a pass rusher. And AJ didn't reach for english instead of "settling" for matthews, if anything, he settled for english. Matthews was a much riskier and more of a reach than english was.

on to your point, you're saying we should make a huge reach for O-line if warmack, fisher and joeckel aren't there at 11? The o-line talent drops off after those three, and any o-line at 11 would be a big reach. We have other needs on defense such as cb and pass rusher. If those three are all gone, then we can go defense round 1 and o-line in round 2.

In the event that Lotulelei was there at 11, I would have absolutely no problems with picking him, even if Fisher was somehow still on the board.

Of course, in this mystical dream world where Lotulelei and Fisher are still on the board, I can probably also fly and blow things up with my mind, so I'd have other things to worry about than who the Chargers were drafting.

But yes. If Lotulelei is on the board, I would take him, no matter what.

Good call. He's saying how AJ reached...half right...and then talking about an absolutely HUGE reach with his suggestions. A pass rusher or CB whose talent project to the 11th slot would look good on the D if the OL isn't there instead of taking an OL who might project to the end of the 1st, if not the 2nd round. No brainer, really.

Fringe first rounder, third rounder, third rounder. You've got to be kidding me.

This is no different. Those years A.J. decided that we NEEDED a WR and an OLB and wasn't getting out of the first round without one. So he reached, and we paid the price. Just as we would if we took Cooper, Jones, or Thomas at 11 (I still can't believe you want that).

You're suggesting that we take 2nd-3rd round talent at the 11th overall pick. How is that even going to help Rivers? Most linemen taken outside of round one struggle as rookies anyways, so reaching for one wouldn't do him any good and would just screw this roster over even further.

The draft isn't the only source of players in the NFL.
