I was at this game - I think this is 1971. Big Rew was a rookie in 1970 as a defensive end.
What a time, what a life it has been - these guys really played a game that cost a lot, more than was as fans can ever know. It gave them a lot to be sure, more than most of us will ever have. But it took a lot a lot. Walt gave his all, and I believe God will give him his place of rest he richly deserves. God Bless you Walt Sweeney. May you rest in everlasting peace… |

One of the great all time Chargers. Walt came and spoke at my work place about his time in the AFL and NFL and drug problems thoughout his life. Great man above all. Hit home to a lot of people where I worked. He told a story that at one low point he actually pulled a gun on HOF coach George Allen during a suprise bed check. He was very humble and worked hard to help others with their demons by exposing his own. He will be missed.

Thoughts and prayers are with his family. As he seemed to be a great guy and a great player!
