QB's don't have to be prolific passers to be elite. No one doubts Manning is elite, yet he's been one-and-done in the playoffs eight times. In fact, the prolific passers have been very sketchy when it comes to winning Superbowls, and rarely have consistent playoff success. Peyton won his, finally, after many failed attempts. Brees won his the year he had his fewest yards passing as a Saint and they had a top-10 defense and top-10 rushing offense. Rodgers threw for under 4,000 yards the year the Packers won it all. Since the Patriots became a team that throws it all over the field, they haven't won a Superbowl.

Yet, guys like Rothlisberger, Flacco, Eli Manning, are having more playoff success and (in the case of Big Ben and Eli) winning multiple rings because of the consistency of their respective teams' philosophies. Those three guys, on similar kinds of teams, have won 5 of the last 8 Superbowls.

And we still have the argument over what constitutes an elite QB? None of them wins a Superbowl without a good team around them, so please stop with the "Flacco was on a great team" argument. It applies to every QB who wins a ring.

I am still trying to figure out how Peyton won the MVP of that Super Bowl. I wasn't impressed. In general, the media sure just does seem to love all of the Mannings (the two boys and their daddy).

6 year 120 million for a qb who is coming off a season where he threw for just 3800 yard and 22 touchdowns, never thrown for 4000 yards in his career...wow flacco just got away with robbery, that contract is rediculous.

I wouldn't complain if PR threw for 3800 yards, 22 TDs and we won a SB.

Ehh... his cap number is pretty reasonable up until 2016 when they'll have to pay him 29 million dollars. I wouldn't have given him the contract, and if we gave something like that to an above average QB who turned it on in the playoffs, I'd be pretty pissed. But hey, they have a Super Bowl.

They will never pay him that amount in salary. If he's still a Raven by then he'll be asked to restructure that last year. His contract is very typically back loaded.

The shear amount of $52M guaranteed is the eye opener. The previous guaranttee high was around $40M. That's a pretty masssive jump.

I just laughed when he became the highest paid player in the nfl. He isn't worth anywhere near what he got
