Wow !

Warner and Davis getting in ?

What complete nonsense....if the distinction hadn't lost its luster already, it's set in stone now. Warner wasn't even a starter for half of his career, and was benched for an unknown Marc Bulger, a rookie ShEli who wasn't supposed to play as a rook, and a bust Matt Lienert (who if he panned out would have effective ended Warner's career). In what world do HOF'ers get benched MULTIPLE TIMES for every team they played for ?!?!?!

Way to go with this...WOW, just WOW !!!

Morten Andersen getting in over Coryell based on longevity is the one who bothers me in the players/coaches category.

The ludicrous nature of the "contributors" category is what also bothers me. Why aren't coaches considered in the same category as GM's, owners, et al???

Yes.

The HOF distinction is supposed to be a lifetime/career award, not double dipping from a couple spotty good years a player had. In Warner's case it is 100% double dipping. He had a couple great years on each end of his career and was honored accordingly for those spot performances.

In addition to everything I pointed out in the last post, his career numbers are not even close to being sufficient for HOF status. 38th on the all time passing yardage list (Vinny Testaverde is 11th), and only 11 players above Warner have been active since he retired. He's tied for 35th on the TD pass list, and will be bumped down to 36th, as soon as Jay Cutler throws his next TD pass.

For a guy who played in the modern era, and retired not too long ago, this is completely unacceptable. His numbers suck because he was a clipboard holder for half his career. What other HOF'er let alone a QB, can you say fit that bill ? Complete nonsense.

Davis simply didn't have the longevity, and as a result the career total numbers. He isn't even on the leader board charts with his rushing yards and/or TD's. Below 30th all time in both categories. Like Warner, he had a couple great years, and was honored accordingly for those years. Double dipping is unwarranted.

As for Morten Anderson, I am not bothered so much, because he essentially
earned a lifetime achievement award (even if his position is regarded as not being a "real" football player). As far as I am concerned, kickers and punters should be in their own category with 1 election every 20 yaers or so. Considering the last (and only other) kicker inducted was Jan Stederud in 1991, I'm OK with them inducting another with a 25+ year gap in between. If we're not gonna consider them at all, because of their position, then just take them completely off the candidate list.

Anyone who gets in through the "contributor" category, I don't even acknowledge. It is what it is. They aren't competing against the players or coaches, so let them play whatever politics they want with that. At least it doesn't effect those who are actually worthy of getting in.

Overall, this was an extremely weak class IMO. Sorry LT, you are the exception, but the rest of the class is hard to accept...

It's actually good for LT. Only truly deserving superstar, game changer, career worthy guy being inducted

That statement doesn't help Coryell's cause IMO.

TO tore apart three teams' locker rooms which detrimentally affected their on-field performance. I predicted long ago that TO would face a long up-hill battle in getting to Canton because of that fact, so it's no surprise to me that he hasn't made it in despite his statistics.
