How much have they wasted if he is cut at any point before Week 1?

I think Jeff Cumberland is similar to Jared Cook so I don't mind the signing.

I am pretty sure that signing Cumberland is not going to deter the Chargers from drafting someone if there is someone in the draft that they like. If someone beats out Cumberland whether it be a draftee or an undrafted free agent then so be it, it's not like they have a bunch of money tied up into it. If he makes the team then he was the best option to do so, so there wouldn't be a problem either way.
