Default PB Incident - driver sentenced

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/...-erby-hit-run/

The Chargers have requested the public's assistance after an intern in their public relations department was struck early Friday morning by a hit-and-driver while walking across a Pacific Beach street.

J'Ron Erby, 23, suffered severe brain damage and is critical condition, a team official said. He joined the team last month as a season-long intern. According to his LinkedIn profile, Erby also interned for the Washington Redskins from January to June this year.

He played defensive back at Wayne State College, a Division II school in Detroit, and worked as a sports editor of the campus newspaper.

"We're asking for everyone to keep him and his family in their prayers right now," said Bill Johnston, Chargers director of public relations. "He hasn't been with the team very long, but he's made a lot of good friends here. A lot of people are praying for him."

Johnston urged anyone with information about the driver, who remains at-large, to inform police.

Erby is one of two men struck on Garnett Avenue near Cass Street, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. The other man, 25, suffered a laceration on his forehead, per Heim, who described the driver as having swerved into a wrong-way lane about 1 a.m. in order to pass slower vehicles.

Erby is from Hercules, located northeast of San Francisco.

The Spanos family arranged transportation Friday for Erby's family to San Diego.

I hope they get good witness identifications, and lots of surveillance video and get the driver. They need to be locked up for a long, long time.

Hang tough, Mr. Erby. The Charger family is pulling for you.

Such a sad and unfortunate story. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Hopefully they find the guy and he rots behind bars. Between all of the bars on Garnett you'd think at least one of them would have survelence cameras facing towards the street.

This burns me up. Idiot swerved into one way lane and then strikes pedestrians. Lock em up.
