It's why the Saints pay such a premium on guards like Evans and Grubbs. Even more so than their tackles. Petyon is the same way in my opinion. If he can step up in the pocket, he can negate an outside rush quite easily.

Now the question becomes is Rivers the type of QB that does better with a guard or a LT? You can make a case either way with Rivers doing better when he had a competent Gaither towards the end of 2011. But I also saw him do well with someone else at left tackle because Dielman was such a stud.
The fact is, OLT is the most important OL position because they will be the player who most often faces the best pass rusher. That being said, it's been long known the best pass rush comes from up the middle if you can pull it off. In the past, mediocre OGs and Cs could hold the middle against DTs and MLB/ILBs who were normally not very good pass rushers. This is the Chargers problems. We have one decent G in the interior of our OL, and teams are consistently pushing that interior into Rivers face. If we did draft Warmack, and sign Vasquez to a new deal, that would probably not be the case going forward, leaving us just the OLT position to fill. I don't know what the Chargers are planning on that front, especially with Gaither, but I certainly hope that if Fisher isn't there for us that they're at least forming a viable alternative to him if their plan is to bring him back...just in case.

If Fiser is gone, than I hope Warmack is there. If not, either take the best defender available or move down for Cooper or Johnson.

I personally don't think we are going to the ZBS as I don't think any of our Oline is really suited for it, so I would take Warmack or take BPA and go with Warford in the 2nd or maybe 3rd.

For me it would come down between pass rushers (Mingo, Jordan) Lane Johnson and THEN Warmack. He's a good player and ask, but guards are just easier to find than LTs and great pass rushers. For our purposes, I may have to lean towards Johnson. And no, I don't think he would be a second rounder if Lewan and Matthews had declared.

Well, I would also argue the middle of our OL needs to counter the athleticism of today's interior DL. Ours do not. Put Warmack in there, sign Vasquez, and hopefully there's a healthy Faulk sitting there in the 2nd for us, or we sign one of the FAs like Albert. At that point, both our passing and running games will probably take big leaps forward. An OL like that is also one that will allow us to impose our will on teams late in games, something we haven't been able to do in years. When we need a yard, or we need to protect Rivers late in games, I've been holding my breath for far too many years. I think it's almost imperative that we get both an OT, and an OG, either through the draft or/and FA.

There's another "War" guy out there ??
Oh hell, just draft them all and we'll run the Warhammer Offense.
