not saying i knew it would turn out the way it did (hell, i would have felt obligated to try and convince beathard to pass), but i did have strong reservations about taking him at 2. i wanted peyton. once he was gone, i wanted charles woodson. my dad told me before the draft that woodson was a once-in-a-lifetime DB. he was right. |

I know it is hind sight, but if someone tells you before the draft that they would go to Vegas for a week to celebrate being drafted to be the leader of your team....
It should have been a huge red flag and they should have backed away instantly....

Yeah we need to get younger. It is honestly just a group of guys holding us back. It was guys like Hadnot and jammer also Johnson but he was effective so I won't include him here

i was and still am leery of physical specimens. here's my thought on it: the more gifted a guy is physically, the easier it is for him to shine. if a drew brees or wes welker or darren sproles can impress scouts, it impresses me MORE, given their physical limitations. it tells me their heads are screwed on straight. i remember seeing leaf and thinking "this guy has it all. i just hope he knows how to be a leader." i guess his career proved he was never cut out to lead an offense on the field, much less his own life off of it. |

I just can't see cutting players due to their age. Some people are still quite young at 40 while others are washed up at 28. Keep and cut them according to their ability. Jammer had a bad year last year and it looks as though he's over the hill but he may still be very good if they move him to Safety. He loves being a Charger and has said that he'd like to play for the Chargers for his entire career - so why rush to cut him? Move him during the off season ans see how he can do as a Safety. As it happens, he played Safety one year in College before being moved to Corner so he has some idea of how to play it. His contract is up so offer him a new contract that's in order with a position change.
I also wonder if any of our OT's that are pretty poor as an OT may be quite good as a OG? Why not keep them long enough to find out? A team is allowed to take a lot of players to TC, so what's the hurry to cut these guys?
