Being from OC, I have been an Angels fan from my first pro-baseball memories (1968?)
I used to laugh at myself, feeling like the Indians fans in "Major League" that would show up at a stadium with maybe 50 other fans; but wear their headgear and bang their drums.
I'll never forget taking my young sons to a game, and with all the abuse from the Red Sox fans, (mostly profane, and not giving a darn about the age of the kids), my son asking me "Isn't this OUR home stadium?"
That all changed when the Angels finally made it to the Series, in 2002. And managed to win it.
Now you can't get season tickets unless they are near the foul pole. Even the nosebleeds have been tough to get in the favored sections.
It only took one -- ONE -- good season, which is now ten-years gone by, to give everyone a sense of satisfaction that they can rely on when times are bad.
My younger son's room, for example, still has a framed copy of the newspaper's front page from the victory, and other photos and paraphernalia including the roster, etc. When things are tough, we can still look back, and say "remember Percival that year?" , or wow was Erstadt a tough son of a gun.
This goes to the heart of what made me consider this thread worthwhile -- just give us something. Give us one year we can hang our hats on. . . . .
Because when that happens, everyone's got some sense of pride, and accomplishment that would help rebut some of the impatience, exasperation, and even anger when things are not so wonderful . .. . . .
