Today I took the day off. Scheduled a tee time to get on the golf course for the first time in forever, basically.

Getting ready to leave my house, and the clerk for the federal appeals court I'm in front of calls. It's a call I HAVE to take. So we're ten seconds into it, and sure enough the doorbell rings. My dog of course goes crazy. Barking, running to the front door, etc.

I'm trying to play it off, but he keeps going nuts. Clearly this wasn't a UPS guy who just rang the bell -- there's someone there, and Dewey is going to keep jumping up and down and making noise.

So I can't hide this anymore from the Clerk -- I have to say "excuse me for just a second" and go to the door. (The whole time I'm praying she doesn't hang up on me). At the door, there's a lady with a huge boquet of flowers, and in an enormous glass vase (it's my wife's birthday). I see how this can go South in a hurry, so I am forced to set the phone down on the table in the entry way. Just then, Dewey busts through the screen door, and starts jumping on this lady to give her kisses.

Poor lady is trying as hard as she can not do drop the vase. So I'm yelling "it's okay Dewey"; "here Dewey"; and she's saying "Hi buddy", etc. And then he takes off -- being an escape artist he has now seen an opportunity.

So now I'm taking the flowers from the lady, and both of us are trying to corral the dog, which we eventually do.

Of course now I'm wondering if the Clerk is still on the phone, and what kind of professional she must think I am. I pick up the phone, and to my relief all I hear is laughter. Ends up she's a big dog lover. She says "well your puppy caused quite a scene, huh?" Huge ice breaker. She said it was super funny to listen to that pandemonium over the phone. Thank God. Because this Clerk is not what you would normally think of as a "clerk" -- in her position she is very important to my case.

Okay, now that I've bumped this thread, I KNOW there are many dog lovers in here. The title of the thread wasn't just what-kind-of-dog-do-you-have, but also: How's he treating you today?
