If you want just anyone out of "a lot of other people looking for a job," you're right. But, when you look at his salary, and his ability as a KR, then I think if you go out and get "just anyone of a lot of people," you're hurting our team.

im saying his ability as a KR is fairly replaceable and for cheap. We did it just last year with Spurlock and got the extra bonus of spurlock also being a PR and an ok WR.

FYI...not that it's relevant or anything, but Spurlock's cap hit this year for the Lions is $715 thousand, whereas Goodman's is $630 thousand for us. You don't get much cheaper for a top flight KR. On the other hand, Royal's cap hit this year is $4.5 million. If we cut him, it's $3 million due to his bonus, a savings of $1.5 million we will most likely need at some point.

agreed, goodman is cheap. 85K wont make or break the chargers, so I would think we both can agree Spurlock is also cheap (albeit a little more money).

Between Goodman and Royal, there is no comparison. For what Royal did last year at the price he did it, well, unless we are expecting the 2008 Eddie Royal he wont be worth his price tag and is the most likely cut. Its why I would rather have Goodman over Royal.

If your words are true, Royal is a dead man walking.

He's living on the reputation that he built during his rookie season, and has yet to sniff in 4 seasons since.

When VJ left, Royal and Meachem were the best replacements. But that doesn't really speak much about their ability, just that they were the best FA options at the time.

Here's where I got my info from. If they have their info right, then the figures I gave are correct. I'd say they'd be pretty accurate for him anyhow. He was guaranteed $6 million, and we've thus far paid him 3 between his salary and bonus last year. The "Dead Money" represents what he'd count against our cap if we cut him, which is the difference between what we've already paid him, and what we guaranteed him. The $1.5 million in savings represents what we would not owe him for this year's salary should we keep him.

I posted this in another thread, then saw this.

The Chargers will make the playoffs this season, but it will come down to the last 3 games of the season.

I predict we will be at least 5-2 going into the bye.

The talking heads will be on our jock about how great we usually are in November & December, so we'll go 2-2 in November to give the haters something to talk about.

December is still cloudy in my mind (mainly because of the chance for injury/streaks), but I see us going 2-1 with our last 3 AFCW games giving us an 11-5 record and securing at least a wild card spot.

IMO, our new coaching staff is going to be the difference this season.
We will be the aggressors and won't be playing "not to lose" like so often in the past.
We will adapt in "real time" and not let things spiral out of control.
We will finally start deferring the ball to the 2nd half when we win the coin toss.

Not just being a homer, but I predict a Chargers vs Falcons Superbowl.

RE: December performance.
We're replace the HC, the strength coach, and even the team doctor. Maybe we can have a season without an unlucky injury. If we can keep the team healthy, we should be a quality team. Coming into december we should have some momentum and team growth.

My minimum expectation is that we have 10 wins. If 10-6 isn't good enough to make the playoffs, so be it.

We were a 7-9 team last year. In the offseason, we've added a list of very good talent through the draft, signed a few key veterans, and have brought in 2 very bright offensive minds to redesign the offense.

If we can't get to 10 wins, I'm not sure that the current regime is an upgrade. I can say that i believe that we are close to the Broncos and we have a good chance of winning the division. If we make the playoffs, i do expect atleast 1 win.

- I think we are good enough to make the playoffs and win a game, but i can't convince myself that we are Super good.
