This is worse, most of us believed the team was good enough for playoffs, and when we find out we are far from playoffs calibre, it hurts, hurts real deep.
Yes we have a winner thank you sir I'm not alone.

But I believe it starts with the head coach. We’ve seen the decision-making, we’ve seen the turnovers, we’ve seen that this team has been up 24-0 and end up losing. That’s coaching, fella, ok? That’s coaching. I’ve played on four freaking Super Bowl teams. Four Super Bowl teams! I know the difference between being well prepared and not being well prepared."

The teams since 2006 have been quite frustrating though, because they look good enough at times to give you hope. The stretches of Saunders-Henning and then Gilbride-Riley were awfully painful years. I wasn't old enough to actually remember the Prothro years, but those must have been brutal as well.

Makes me wonder how the CMB would look had it existed during the Prothro, Saunders/Henning or Gilbride/Riley era. It wasn't until the Henning (89-91) years that I even got on the internet. Even then, it was so limited.

agree with the bolded. even going back to 2004 with the way we lost in the playoffs and the disappointment of 2005. we were legitimate contenders in some of those years. Not at all since 2009

Prothro was not as bad as what came before which was the Harland Svare drug problem years. to me, that was probably the darkest period of Charger history.

Prothro was somewhat hopeful because you could see that the team was starting to draft good players. Coryell proved that.

A hearty second to these remarks. Prothro drafted Kelcher, Dean, and Gary "Big Hands" Johnson. Prothro left the team in much better shape than he found it. Coryell profited off of the stewardship of Prothro.

Prothro was an intellectual (he and Omar Sharif won some major Bridge tournaments), while Coryell was more of a "rah-rah" guy. The "rah-rah" approach was not bad; 2 AFC Championship games.

Harland Svare and his spawn (in terms of players) were the worst.

In my opinion, 2006 was the most frustrating time in my 34 years of fanhood. We were not a great team, but we were by far the best team in a very down NFL. The window was only open for that year because the Patriots would immediately rebuild with the team they had in 2007. It is not often that the Steelers, Patriots, Ravens, and Colts would all be average at the same time yet they were and we couldn't capitalize on it.

All we had to do was beat the Pats and then we would have hosted Indy, who at the time we absolutely dominated. Then it would have been the Bears in the SB and with our front 7, we would have literally destroyed Rex.

Thanks Marty, it's why I will never in my life forgive you. You had the best opportunity to win a SB in the history of our existence and you blew it!!!!

it is not the record (4-7)

we got beat 2 times this yr... at home against Atlanta and at denver... the 4 others lost we had 10+ pts leads or more at some point of the game... bad game management, bad coaching bad half time adjustment... NORV MUST GO

BTW are defense will be great

True on the Svare years. I wasn't alive to see those ones and you're right about the Prothro years being the time frame where the Air Coryell offense and that '78-79 defense were built. If anything, Coryell wanting offensive tinker toys in the draft and not restocking the defense, helped to throw the team into the tank in those Saunders/Henning years.
