If I remeber right the inital owners of the team also owned horses and tied the 2 together.

It was from watching usc games and listening to everyone in the stadium yelling "charge" during the games I believe.

I don't know but I do know Back in the Day. They had a guy on a horse that would ride around the stadium. Also a charger is a horse that is fast that was used in lke jousting and stuff. I think!!!

Just wanting to put my two cent worth on the origin of the Chargers name...... it seem that the original owner of the Chargers was a fellow by name of Baron Hilton... yes the same Hilton of the hotels and Paris Hilton. Well anying way mr Hilton started the Carta Blanca credit card biz from were the term chargers arrived..... |

I have a picture on my wall that I bought in Coronado that has an NFL history timeline.
It says here: 1961- Barron Hilton founds Los Angeles Chargers; name refers to Hilton's new carte blanche charge card. (essentially a credit card)
