Lightbulb Nate Clements - Do we even want him???

Buffalo Bills star CB will be an UFA at the end of this season. I live near Buffalo and hear a great deal of media coverage surrounding the Bills (It was great when we blew them out this year). This morning on the local talk radio they played a montage of clips with music in the background of Clements getting burned by many of the top recievers in the league. Recievers such as Chris Chambers, Randy Moss, Eric Parker, Rod Smith, David Givens (and those are just the ones I can remember). The whole purpose of the clips was to hype his matchup with Chad Johnson this week in Cincinatti. Side Note : His touchdown celebration after he beats Clements will involed a live deer and a Christmas theme! lol. Johnson is so confident that he will beat Clements just like everyone else this year that he is planning his biggest celebration ever against the Bills CB. He is the self proclaimed "best CB in the NFL" (what is with average Bills players saying that they are the best in their position in the NFL, haha). He has come out and said to the Bills that if they want to keep him then they will have to pay him as the 'best' in the league. I know the Bills wont "show him the money". At the beginning of the season I was very exited about the idea of Nate going to SD, I am certainly not now. He will be available to the highest bidder, does anyone actually think that AJ should put us in the Clements Auction?? Discuss.....

here is the thing...AJ tends to not ever go for the guys you get into bidding wars for. I think he's right that that is the best way to overpay big time for a player. I expect that AJ will look more for an under the radar type...that is more his style.

On the issue of how worth it Clements is...I don't think a shut down corner exists anymore. New rules I think have essentially killed the position. The best you can hope for now is corner who can create a lot of turnovers. Thats what AJ should be on the lookout for.

Thumbs up Jammer

The last few weeks Quentin has been playing very well, if he plays well agianst the chiefs he might be on his way to justifying his high draft pick!

Jammer has his moments where you understand why he was drafted high but he is way too inconsistent. For example, before Sunday's game against the Colts he had 12 passes defended (hands on ball, knocking it away), 9 pass interference/illegal contact penalties, and 0 INTs. I'm working on looking into how he stacks up with other "#1" CBs in the league in these stats but I'm guessing he's near the bottom of the list. It's gotten so bad that whenever there's a flag in the secondary on 3rd down my friends and I utter the words "damnit Jammer", and sadly we're right about 75% of the time.

But this thread isn't about Jammer, It's about Nate Clements. I agree with maverjoe about AJ not getting into bidding wars over players. Personally I think we need a ball hawk like Deltha O'Neal (10 INTs on the season), or someone similar. So no, I hope we don't go after Clements but I do hope we go after another veteran CB and either bump Jammer to 2nd CB or experiment with him playing safety.

Regarding Jammer, he pretty much did as good a job as you can on Harrison. And he had at least 3 batted balls, on man coverage.

I heard that harrison now has a fractured hand.

Whenever jammer is involved in a passs defense, we always yell: no flags! no flags! then if there are no flags we cheer and hi 5.

I agree... with current NFL rules you need a ball hawk. Delta, Dawkins (safety) Nathan Vasher. I like those guys because they always come out with a pick.

P.S. No we do not want self proclaimed "best players" and overpay him

Default good info

Being the number 1 corner changes quickly in the NFL. Nate was beat by many receivers including Eric Parker. A.J. knows Nate pretty well having come from the Bills. I agree that we can afford him but I don't think we will go into a bidding war for Nate. Maybe our priority is the offensive line for free agency and dabbling in the draft for a big time corner. Jammer is beginning to make consistent plays against the top receivers. Let's hope this trend continues.

Go Bolts

After the way Clements has performed this season I don't think AJ should pursue him in any way.

Also, I like the way Jammer has been performing the last few games. He has been getting better and I only hope his growth continues to result in more consistent plays and less penalties.

I say let's go after a very experienced Safety rather than a cornerback.
