Default Greene signs 2 year $11 million deal

good but not great news...i would have liked to see a longer deal, this could lead to us trading him at the deadline.

This is certainly good news for Padre fans! Khalil had expressed a reluctance to agree to anything long-term, due to a reported medical situation with his family back east, so to see him inked for more than a year puts a smile on my face.

While I could see him dealt at the deadline if long-term talks don't get anywhere. I don't think it would be the 2008 deadline, more than likely it would be during the 2009 season, if at all.

This smells like a sign and trade ordeal. Greene doesn't want to stay in San Diego, he wants to play on the East coast. With this deal we can get more for him than we would have gotten from arbitration or a trade where he only has a year left.
What would you take for Greene?

What are the chances we could get AJ to do double-duty and call the shots for the Padres too? I'm tired of the team being just better than mediocre every year.

I love Towers as GM...makes great moves with what he has to work with...he doesn't get much money to throw around to big names...but yet with the mimimal spending limit he does get he is able to put out very competitive ball clubs...imagine if Moores stopped being a penny pincher and opened up his wallet and allowed Towers to put together a team without worrying about pay roll...Theo Epstein is basically Kevin Towers with a bigger bank account to play with...imagine the teams Towers could build if he could spend like the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, and all the other big spenders...
