He's pretty quick off the snap from everything I've watched. Some times deceptively slow because they had him stunt a lot and he would hesitate to allow the nose to make a move before he made his. A lot of his snaps were at 3-4 DE, which is why we mostly see him bull rush. IMO, he has the burst, arm length, and flexibility to turn the corner and rush from the outside with consistency. But he was only able to flash that ability because he didn't play from the 7,8, or 9 very often. Again, I'm projecting.

As far as players who went there, Keith Bulluck, Dwight Freeney, Marvin Harrison, Tanard Jackson, Jameel McClain, Donovan McNabb...

Definitely not the highest level of competition, but the program is on the rise and it certainly isn't prohibitive.

Look at his frame and agility... those are things that Perry can't attain no matter how hard he works. Perry is a safer pick and has the best explosion of any pass rusher in the class, but you have to admit that he's a little stiff and not likely to loosen up all that much. Still worth a pick at 18, but if Jones reaches his potential, he's out Aldon Smith.

Syracuse as a school is not reason. Level of competition? Yes that plays a factor. What kind of defense they run? Sure. But its not because he goes to Syracuse that he wouldn't be a good player.

Here's the scouting report that basically sums up my opinion. I generally like Ryan McCrystal's stuff. For what it's worth, I formed my own opinion before I stumbled upon this.

And as I've said all along I totally get why people think that would be a reach at 18. I just see something in him and if we take him at 18, I'll know our staff (with access to all his tape) does too.
