Oregon Ducks and the Chargers, you guys are my kind of people. I'm a huge ducks fan even though i'm down in so. cal, i want to be playing free safety or receiver at Oregon in about 3 years. Then after that, get drafted by the Chargers. I'm only 15 years old, every1 wish me luck.

I grew up in SD and moved to oregon six years ago to be with my husband and go to school. I still try to keep in touch with whats going on the my favorite team. Whenver I can I watch their games, of course they usually show the other games, seems our local stations favor seattle and denver. It totally sucks, I wish I could afford the NFL pay per view package from directtv. Anywa go Chargers!! glad we won our first game!!!

It stinks that Seattle changed divisions because that was one Chargers game a year that was reasonably close. Looks like I am going to have to settle for going to the bar to watch the playoffs here in Eugene.

The playoffs will be on the tube at home, no need to go anywhere.

I'm up in Salem and have the Sunday Ticket - maybe we can get together for a game next year if you don't have the Sunday Ticket.

Its not that I cant watch it from home but it gets me out of the house and also an excuse to go and get liquored up. That would be cool for one of the games next year.

I have been watching Igor Olshansky since his first year at the University of Oregon. I watched him go in the draft, and have been following him since he became part of the team there in San Diego. I have always been a fan of his, and I always will be. Became a Chargers fan because of Igor and I am proud to be one.

Been a Chargers fan all my life, living in Oregon 10 years, STILL haven't found a Bolts Bar! But then again, maybe we can establish one now that they don't suck! I usually hang at the Wooden Chicken up on 102nd and Sandy, but there's a new sports bar on 77th and Sandy - the Park City Pub - we should take it over this season!!

Oh and hey, if you're not a Chokeland Faiders fan, don't go to Old Chicago in Clackamas - my bro is a Donko's fan and got 86ed for wearing a Griese jersey a few years ago ...

Fouts still lives in Sisters, and has a ranch out there ... Oregon really oughta be the home away from home for Chargers fans, considering Fouts' Duck roots!

To add to the Charger "Home away from home" idea, last I heard, Coryell still lived on the southern coast of Oregon. Two of the greatest Chargers of all time, right here in our state. Can't get any better than that. I think one other player from the late 70's, early 80's team lives in the Bend, Sisters area as well.

Hello all,
I found this forum quite by accident while trying to google a local company "Oregon Bolt". The reason for my post is that I have an autographed team ball from around '81. I haven't checked lately as to how many hall of famers are on it, but there's Fouts, Chandler, Winslow, Benirshke(?), Kelcher, etc., etc.... I would love to hang on to this, but have come to a point where my kids (1, 3 and 5 yrs.) are becoming active and I'd like to buy things we can enjoy as a family. I thought this may be of some value, but don't really know where to offer it (other than ebay) or how much would be a fair price. Any ideas are appreciated!

Regards,
Richard :Helmet:

Hiya, I have friends that own a bar on Main St. in Oregon City...it used to be the Old Star Theater so there is a 12x12 foot projection screen to view the games on. If there is enough interest in the Portland Metro and surrounding areas they would like to make it a Chargers Bar. Is there anyway we can take a poll and find out?
Thanks for taking the time to read this message, and I look forward to hearing from you.

I expect that Drew will be back by TC and he'll be fine. I think his injury means a lot more snaps in mini-camp for Rivers (and Feeley) and in case of any other injuries to Drew next year, this could turn out to be good for the team. Who can know for sure? I do think Drew will be back on schedule, everything in his past points to that.

Beamer one of the best for Tribe

TOM EGGERS
February 10, 2006

Clarence "Nub" Beamer Jr.'s first varsity football game for Roseburg High in 1953 was an impressive debut, to say the least.

Beamer, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound junior halfback, was in his first season of football and had turned out for the team late in the summer. He didn't play in the Indians' opening two varsity contests, shutout losses to Eugene and Klamath Union.

His presence was the difference in the third game against Medford at Finlay Field. Beamer rushed for 205 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Indians defeated the Black Tornado 26-14 -- Roseburg's first win ever over Medford (now North Medford) after 16 losses to its southern Oregon rival.

"I didn't know what to expect," Beamer said Wednesday from his home in Winfield, British Columbia, Canada. "My parents (Beatrice and Clarence Sr.) didn't let me play football until I was a junior," fearing he'd get hurt. "But after the Medford game, I convinced them."

A star was born from that point on.

Beamer went on as a senior to become Roseburg's first football player to receive first-team all-state honors, played three years collegiately under Tommy Prothro at Oregon State University and spent five seasons with the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League.

Beamer, a 1955 RHS graduate who will turn 70 on Tuesday, was one of four running backs selected to The News-Review's All-Century Roseburg High football team in 2001.

"I think Nub was one of the top three or four (all-around) athletes in the state at that time," said Denny Brundage, a '55 classmate who played football with Beamer at RHS and OSU. "He was a very disciplined athlete and powerful runner. He did it all extremely well."

Beamer was a three-sport athlete his final two years at RHS, playing football, basketball and baseball. Bill Harper, who coached Beamer in basketball and baseball, says he was a talented catcher for the Tribe on the diamond. Unfortunately, a broken wrist kept Beamer out of baseball his senior year.

"I thought he had the potential to be a professional baseball player," said Harper, a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies since 1970. "He could really swing the bat. He was strong physically, and was a good competitor. When the bell rang, he was ready to go."

But football was the sport that opened doors for Beamer.

He shined in his two years under Bob George at RHS, making the all-district team both seasons and receiving honorable mention on the High School All-American Team in 1954. The Indians finished 4-4-1 both years.

Beamer ran for 12 touchdowns in seven games as a junior. His biggest game as a senior came against Springfield, when he rushed for 187 yards and scored a school-record five TDs in a 32-6 victory over Springfield. That record stood solely until Greg Fogle, Roseburg's career leading rusher, matched it in 1990.

Beamer could also throw, tossing two scoring strikes in a 28-6 win over Sandy. He accounted for 1,001 yards of total offense in 1954, gaining 795 on the ground and 206 through the air in nine games.

"After my senior year, I knew I wanted to play pro football," he said.

Beamer accepted a scholarship offer from OSU and spent the next four years in Corvallis. He played on the rook team in 1955, then played a major role over the next three years.

He was a reserve fullback on the 1956 team that lost to Iowa 35-19 in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 1957, before 100,000 fans in Pasadena, Calif. Beamer gained 31 yards on seven carries, including a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter, and caught two passes for 31 yards for the 10th-ranked Beavers, who finished 7-3-1 that season.

"Playing in the Rose Bowl was really exciting," Beamer said. "That crowd was unbelievable."

The Beavers had good clubs in 1957 and 1958 as well, going 8-2 and 6-4. The '57 season ended with a 10-7 win over Oregon in Eugene, but the 19th-ranked Beavers were kept out of the Rose Bowl due to the conference's no-repeat rule at the time.

"That was hard to swallow," Beamer, a starter his last two seasons, said.

Beamer remembers two highlight games from his junior season -- a 20-0 upset of USC in Portland with 131 yards rushing and two TDs, and a 39-25 win over Washington State at home when he gained 114 yards and scored three times.

"(Tommy) Prothro was a man of few words, but I liked him," Beamer said. "He wasn't too much into giving pep talks, he just asked you to go out and give 100 percent and do your job. My fundamentals really improved at OSU. I learned how to block and how to run better. He helped get me into pro football."

After playing in the East-West Shrine Game, it was on to Canada and Beamer says he enjoyed his time in the CFL from 1959-63. He played 59 games for the Lions, making the Western Division all-star team twice. He won the Eddie James Memorial Trophy as the Western Division's top rusher in 1962.

B.C. won the Western Division title in 1963 and lost to Hamilton 21-10 in the Grey Cup. A pair of concussions forced Beamer to retire and become a stockbroker.

Nub is the third of the late "Pop" and "Ma" Beamer's six children. His three brothers -- Wally, 72, Ron, 66, and Jim, 59 -- all played professional baseball. There are two sisters: Doris, 74, and Bessie, 67.

All but Nub reside in Oregon: Doris in Coquille, Wally and Ron in Roseburg, Bessie in Salem and Jim in Keizer.

Now retired from the workforce, Beamer has lived in Winfield with his wife of 21 years, Jean, the past two years after residing in Lynden, Wash., for 16. Their two children, Gregg, 40, and Marcie, 38, live nearby in Canada. They have three grandchildren.

Nub, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer four years ago but says he's doing fine today, will celebrate his 70th at his brother's house in Keizer. All his brothers and sisters, along with some of their families and friends, are expected to attend. Plenty of stories will be told, no doubt.

"I've had a terrific life," he said. "Roseburg was a great place to grow up and I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do. I couldn't ask for anything more."

Hey all! Just checking in from the Roseburg area. I've got a couple of friends here that are also Bolt fans. We're gonna be having playoff parties. I've got a kegerator full of Coors Light for each weekend they progress. Looking forward to this post season as I am hoping to see us go deep in the playoffs for a change.

I've been a Chargers fan my entire life (37 years) and have only made it to a couple of their games. I seldom miss a game that is televised though.

I'm new to the forum and visiting my family in Eugene. I live in SD and am looking forward to seeing our bolts go ALL THE WAY!! I got playoff tix :)

Right now I'm looking for a good place to catch the game on the 31st. It looks as though that's the big topic around here. Any ideas. I'm also willing to make a little trip to another city if it means I get to watch the game w/ the fans of the best team in the NFL (as long a Rivers gets his sh*t together).

I live in Bend. This place is friggin overrun with Seahawk, Niner, and Faider fans. More and more people are moving here from NoCal so its getting kinda annoying at all the Silver and Black i see.

I made the six hour drive to Seattle for the Game. I've never heard such a loud stadium go so quiet, so fast. When it was over, I wished the resident Quest Field Santa a merry christmas. He started to respond with the same, then stopped cold when he realized I was wearing blue and gold.

WELL , WE GAVE THAT GAME AWAY ! Too bad we didn't connect the first 2 drives to wide open receivers for td's ! Give Cal credit , they came out in the second half and earned it . What a MISSED opportunity for the Ducks , could've moved up towards the top 5 ! Now I just hope they beat SC at home in a few weeks . I'm going to the UCLA game 10/24 .... GO DUCKS !.... dammit !

Washington is holding the Trojans down so far - 0-0. The Washington QB just overthrew a wide open WR in the end zone.

I'm hoping the Bears and Ducks will both beat USC. I've always been anti-USC or anything else that's in LA.

I didn't expect much from them after Dixon went down but zero points against UCLA is really bad. The year started off so great but too many injuries to the key players on offense just killed them. Judging from what we saw from those Freshmen QB's today, they better find a JC kid to bring in or next year will be bad..

I saw the Jets (playoff loss) at Claudia's, with the understanding that it was a gathering spot for bolts fans.

Didn't see any there, but the atmosphere wasn't pro-Jets either.

I would support making it a meeting spot, if it's all ages for the games.. does anyone know?
