It doesn't matter... If you read my scouting report topic you will learn that he is not going to be available anyway. You are correct though, as of now his contract is up at the end of this season.

None of these are guards, this is the free agent tackle list.

I'm suprised you were the first to notice this was a list of tackles. I wouldn't mind Runyan filling in at RT and moving Olivea to LG. He is 32 so it wouldn't be a perminant solution. But good if we want to make a SB run. If we could land Runyan, Hutch, and draft a 1st or 2nd round LT to learn under Oben then we would finally give Tomlinson some good holes.

there ya go with the guards lol i noticed that the other list was tackles also but ok anyways... yeah i like goign after hutchinson first for guards and then manuwai after... he is more of a passing specialist from hawaii but he is very good also and runyan i like too. i like the idea of having to solid veteran tackles next year with oben and runyan but incase oben is injury proan again next year we need to draft a left tackle. i also like tom ashworth for tackles too. im not sure what side he plays but i think he is a very solid player.

Stephen Neal who wasn't in my original list is an UFA who I think AJ should seriously consider.

funoti has an attitude thus the reason our best guard went to ICE planet! and he is due money... I like guys mentioned plus kevin mawae.. he is a great guy and a great leader and a great player!

I think that Stephen Neal might be interesting for AJ to go after since its obvious that AJ likes lineman with Wrestling experience and Neal was a Collegiate All-American. Leverage and power isnt something you can teach and he obviously has that attribute and I feel would be a great upgrade if we couldnt get someone along the lines of Hutchinson.

I would think Hutch will stay in Seattle. They have a lot of cap space and unless they are willing to spend big. I dont think AJ will spend big for him though. The reason I want Fonoti is that he was our best Run blocker. He had a down year with injury so he will be cheaper. I do not think we would have traded him if he did not break his hand. He is tough and nasty. He played 2 games with the broken hand and did not complain. He was replaced and our running game was not the same. If AJ will take him back I am sure he would come back. He still lives in Alpine.

For those that do not live in San Diego. Alpine a small city about 20-30 min. away from The "Q".

He played like crap when played with his broken hand. Looked like it hurt him too much. Plus he was going to be/is a FA now. Word was he didn't want to play in SD next year. So foogetaboutit! He is not coming back.

Just a quick hit from sportsline.com

If you're looking for a potentially hot name on the free-agent market, look at New Orleans Saints center LeCharles Bentley. The Saints would love to keep him, and there's a chance they could put the franchise tag on him, but Bentley is believed to be ready to leave New Orleans. As a player, he is a fierce competitor who has proved to be a good player at both guard and center. He's on his way to the Pro Bowl, an honor that is well deserved. Bentley plays with a nasty streak that teams love. For those looking to upgrade in the middle of the line, Bentley should be a target. I love the way the kid plays, and he would be one of my top free-agent targets if I were a general manager.

From my other posts, you may all know who I want...Steve Hutchison would be I think the biggest addition for the Bolts this offseason. The man can run block...and is in the prime of his career.

I've seen Ephraim Salaam in an interview...he came across as gregarious and good all around guy. Played at SDSU and before he blew up played basketball competitively. This tells me he has pretty decent agility for a big man. Someone to consider if Hutch isn't available.

L.J. Shelton- I haven't seen him play but he comes from good genes. His father Lonnie Shelton, played power forward for the Seattle Super Sonics 79 world champs.

Runyan- I'd rather get a young vet than someone on the downside of their career.

Hutch would be nice...but can he play Left Tackle? All the really bad stuff on the Offensive Line was a direct result of our starting Left Tackle getting hurt. Oben is a nice stop gap in between our hopeful aquisition of a stud Left Tackle either by way of Free Agency or the Draft...but he's deffinitley not a long term answear...or really the answear for the '06 season. Oben would make a great depth player..but the Chargers real need this Offseason is a DOMINANT Left Tackle.

I like the tackle suggestions. Hutchinson is a GUARD... top 3 in the League! Dont say he is the best because... no one can say for sure... He plays next to the best LT! LOL

You wouldnt get hutch and move him to LT when he is at least a top 3 LG in the game. Our guards arent that great either.

No...I didn't say move him to Left Tackle..I was just stating we need a Left Tackle more than anything else along that line. Hutch is great to be sure...and anyone can use a Guard like that...but, a need is a need...Left Tackle is the spot.

Lions likely to tag Backus:

<Feb. 21> According to the Detroit Free Press, the Lions will use either the franchise or transition tag on Backus to keep him off the free-agent market.
Backus said Monday that the Lions had been in contact with his agent about a long-term contract but a deal was unlikely at this stage. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 3.

The 28-year old has started every game since the Lions drafted him in the first round in 2001. If tagged, he probably would be willing to discuss a long-term deal after the NFL and the players' union complete a new collective bargaining agreement.

"My first preference would be to test the market, without closing the door on coming back," Backus said. "I feel I have earned the opportunity to explore my options."

Steve Hutchinson was transition tagged. His cost is $6.391 million to the Seahawks. He can still take offers from other teams. I think its worth it to go after him with the $25 million cap room we have.

they transitioned him to save about 600k in cap space...

but now they can risk losing him without compensation.
