Tommy Polley. He's an OLB but they could try to move him inside. He's still pretty young and he's a pretty good LB.

What's he in? Only his 6th season?

Tommy Polley (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235236)

Pretty good stats.

Not much of a tough LB from what I have heard. He is an OLB and I doubt he would be a good replacement for Godfrey, they are too different.

we need to build at ILB in the draft. We have time and there's no reason to panic and blow our budget on a FA that we're not sure if he could fit in our system to begin with. I'de expect to take an ILB in the 4th round.

As long as the Chargers sign Copper and Wilhelm there is no need to sign any FA ILB. I believe these two will be good for many years.

Wilhelm might be, but cooper is nothing more than a back-up.

Actually I think Cooper is a little bit better then Wilhelm. Why do you think Cooper was playing when Godfrey was out?

Cooper is undersized, I dont think he can hold-up for a whole season.

what size should a 3-4 ILB be like 6'2 240??

Donnie is 6-2 227 and Randall is 6-2 245 so it depends on what you want, speed or strength. If I were a GM then I would say 6 foot to 6-4 and 233-242 pounds.

SEAU!!! Haha, just kidding, but i wouldnt mind having him back on the team, though he wouldnt get much playing time.

Randall Godfrey is a good run stopper and is a copliment to the linebacker core. We dont need a replacement and we have depth. That's why we let Ben Leber go. We are good at linebacker. We only need secondary help on defense. We need to spend our money there first. We then need a reciever that can stretch the field. We also need to bolster our offensive line. Our defensive front 7 can match any team in football!

It's not how big they are, it's how technical they are. an ILB in the 3-4 needs to be very precise and technical. The reason I say that is because it's the most demanding player on the field because they're asked to do everything all the time. They need to blitz, defend the pass, sideline to sideline on run defense, and clog the middle. Not to mention call the plays and be a leader on the defense. No other player on the field is asked to do more than a 3-4 ILB so you need to be all around. If I were to say a weight though...no lighter than 225 and no heavier than 260.

Front seven is set for now, but Randall Godfrey and Donnie Edwards are getting older and we need to think about the future

He is as big if not bigger then Donnie Edwards.

I agree---I just don't see the talent from cooper-he does not look like a starter to me

I agree that we need to get OLINE, WR, and DB'S in the draft, but I also don't think that we need to find an ILB in Free Agency! My solution is LB Ahmad Brooks from the University of Virginia. A lot of people are forgetting about him, but he was going to be a top 15 draft pick this year and decided to stay for his senior year. But he got kicked off the team, and will be in the supplemental draft. So whoever wants to spend the most for him can, and the chargers are under the cap!!!!

Yeah, pretty soon we are going to have to take a good hard look at ILB, with Edwards and Godfrey age coming more and more into play.

Edwards is an elite player and Godfrey should be replaced maybe next year.

I agree completely although I do think that Wilhelm should get a shot to start inside I really think he has

the goods---all he does is make plays when he gets a shot-the guy just has a nose for the football

Because Cooper is Godfrey's back-up and Wilhelm is Edwards back-up. SO whos better Godfrey or Edwards? Wilhelm is better then Cooper. But Cooper is no push over.

QFT. Wilhelm is a lighter hitter and better at coverage than Cooper, whereas Cooper seems a more physical, run-stuffer that doesn't drop back quite as well.

And Donnie's all banged up to.

as replacements i think willhelm and cooper could both step in and do a good job but it would be good to draft a ILB in first 4 rounds at least to compete with them and fill in when they are tired

Thanks mattmc223 - No need to find another ILB then this season as long as we re-sign Cooper and Wilhelm
