As the season progresses, the bad teams usually have the best passing defense. Green Bay did last year.

http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/DEF-PASSING/2006/regularour goal this season was to simply get into the low teens in pass D , and stay near the top in run D

that is usually the formula for a superbowl quality defense.

The Raiders have a very good secondary... they can run with the best of em

Teams are afraid to test their secondary because they're pretty darn good back there.

But there are several stats that you may have missed

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistics?stat=teampass&pos=def&league=nfl&year=2006&season=2
Opposing QB rating
Raiders 90.2
Chargers 60.7

Interceptions
Raiders 4
Chargers7

TD surrendered
Raiders 8
Chargers 5

then Kiel forcing and recovered a fumble should count for yet another turnover for the secondary. So I have them at #1.

:Helmet:The Chargers are the Gold Standard in the NFL:Helmet::Beer:

if you look at the teems they've played so far they were all teams who favored the run, and decided just to run all over en instead of passing

no need to throw when you can just run it over and over

exactly, exactly....part of the reason bad teams sometimes seem to have good pass defense stats is because teams get out to early leads and start running more. And good teams tend to give up more garbage yards in the last quarter which lowers their pass defense rating.

The three posts by BoltThrower and ChrisVillain are incredibly funny ... u guys need to work on your sarcasm detection ... no one here is saying they are a dominant secondary ...

Nobody has to pass the ball against the Raiders. Why pass when you can run over them. The Raider offense can't run or pass. Scoring a lot of points against the Raiders is not necessary. Playing the Raiders is alomost like having the day off.
By the way, the Raider game against the Cardinals will not be shown in Southern California. The NFL wants to keep the Raiders great pass defense a secret. HA HA

Cuz there defense already have black holes for the opposing offense to run into.

Oakland has the number 31 passing Offense. So, if they could play themselves I guess they couldn't complete a pass? It sure makes a Charger fan sad to see the raiders being so bad! :nono:
