im sooo over the Padres its not even funny, i been a fan, watched like every game i can in person and on tv, MLB Network, listen to the games on the radio and so on since 1983, im finally FED UP, FED UP, what kind of trash is this they put on the field? in 2009 i watched maybe 2 games, they make me sick, or should i say MGT, i liked qualcomm, where i can go to a game and sit in a nice seat for cheap, then this we need a NEW ballpark to compete crap came up, talk about we WILL get a TOP NOTCH player or players if we get the park deal done, OK,,, im excited for that one, ummmm ummm what happen? where is that player? Maddox, oh no wait they were talkin about boomer wells, so my point is this,,, after all the drama and lies this is what we got, NOTHING, another last place team guaranteed in 2010, as i see it, someone dropped the BALL big time, we got a new ballpark the excat same year as the Philles did, how far apart are we from them? we got screwed with ticket prices, i used to sit in the left field row 1 at the Q for $9 a seat, the new park jumped to $28.. and payroll went DOWN, go figurie... not to mention the food sucks... Padres, its time it pick up and get outta dodge, go to KC, they like your kind of team there

dude...you watched 2 games in 2009, so how can you possibly have any idea what type of team they are putting out there this year. They are a young, up and coming team. They were downright terrible at times last year as is expected with a young team, but after the all star game they were the 3rd best team in the NL. They might not have overpaid for bigger names in the Offseason, but they are signing good players that will definitely fill vital roles, Like Jon Garland and Yorvit Torrealba. I bet if you checked any other team in the majors you wouldn't find front row in Left Field for 9 bucks, how much have charger ticket prices gone up since the Padres were in the Q? Inflation sucks bro.

This era of the Padres is no worse than the late 80s/early 90s Padres. Even the post-Tony Gwynn/pre-Petco 2000s time which I think was actually worse.

You know this is why i don't like some fans in San Diego. We don't make the playoffs for 3 or 4 years and you think the team is garbage. In the words of Chris Berman: "C'MON MAN!"

This 2010 team doesnt even look that bad. with the younger players only getting better and with little injurys i think the pads will at least make 3rd in the west.

I don't think we'll be horrible this year. We're slowly getting back into contention.. I'm not over the Padres, i'll love them til death. But i'm pretty much over major league baseball. it's a joke how the padres' payroll is 1/5 of the yankees (just a guess) but seriously.. it'd be better of the league weren't so biased towards the yankees, red sox, dodgers, and phillies.

Correct, Padres are at a disadvantage.

Coming from a Rockies fan:

How can you bail on a team when the season hasn't even started yet? Yes, the pads suck arse, but come on. Support your team, man.

They [unfortunately] won't suck forever. Just like the Rocks probably won't be awesome forever. Oh, wait. Yes we will. :)

sorry, my opinion is the Padres are going down the same street as they did the last 10 years.... no chance, im sure they will finish last in the west again, besides that 100% NO CHANCE of a playoff run...

I feel a little ripped off..

I believed Jeff Moorad and Jed Hoyer when they promised $40 million or more in payroll. To nickel and dime your way into a payroll that is still at least $5 million less than last seasons opening day payroll is questionable at best. An insult to fans at the worst.

I do think this team is as good as the one that took the field on opening day last season, but not by much and to have the lowest payroll in baseball after promising more is embarrassing and not a good start to the fans relationship with Moorad, Hoyer and company.

The worst part is we know that Adrian Gonzalez, the best player on the squad, is going away mid season and he may be joined by Heath Bell, Jon Garland and others pushing the payroll down even further.

The Padres need to step it up! They need to have more than the MLB lowest $38.025 million payroll.

Thats my opinion. Now what do you think?

Really? i would like to see some action, however, i read this book in the pastwell i have no expectations, but i do believe the pitching talent we've got combined with petco could equal a very good rotation

i think in that park they should build a speed team

This division is pretty unpredictable this year. I also think its one of the weaker in baseball, (no WS win since 2001). I guess anyhtings possible however I see the Padres finishing with 78 wins which sadly may be good enough for 3rd or 4th

well, with a 38 million payroll lowest in baseball and saying the padres can compete.... we must have some real winners in the front office to pull that one off,,,, like i said i read this book before, the padres will be the minor league of the MLB.... not as bad as when Tom Werner got done with them, but still ohhh sooo bad

I don't care if the padres finish in 1st or last this season. I. Just. Want. Some. OFFENSE!! The last part of the season was fun. Lets face it though, half a season is nowhere enough time to see what this team can do. Maybe the pitchers had little to no information on the young hitters they were facing. Maybe we just happened to find a handful of everyday players sitting in the minors waiting for a change in philosophy from the front office.

He has a point with the payroll....but where was it 3 years ago when we were winning the division. Moore's was cheap......and he went through a divorce. Shame on you for thinking that the payroll would still be the same or go up during his selling of his team. Maybe this new front office needs to get they're feet wet first before they dive in head first. Money can buy you happiness. Look at the Yankees, the Mets are one of the elite teams of baseball. WHEN half of the players on the roster aren't on the DL.

I have been a fan of the Padres since 1980, but also have given up on this team. I don't blame the Padres (well, except for the lies about increasing the payroll if we voted for the new ballpark), I blame the gutless, moron commissioner who continues to cater to the big market teams. No matter how anyone spins it, MLB is a total joke -- 200+ million dollar teams playing 36 million dollar teams.

Every team under $100 million is just an extended farm system for the Yankess, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc. You might have an occasional year where the planets will align for a mid market team and they go deep into the playoffs, but their players will be gone within a year or two. There is no better example than Adrian Gonzales. A young, talented superstar, raised in San Diego. We have no chance of keeping him, and he will probably be wearing a Red Sox uniform by July. We will get a few prospects in return that we hope will be just good enough to make the major league sqaud, but not so good that we can't afford them in a couple years. What a joke!

Until we stop supporting the garbage teams, nothing will change! Stop going to the games and send a message.

I've been lurking on the Chargers board for some time and this post compelled me to come out of the shadows.

The above quote is the biggest reason I have lost enthusiasm for baseball. After playing 9 seasons of baseball in my youth and being an avid Padres/baseball fan when they went to the WS in '98, I simply can't watch a game that is so utterly skewed towards the team with the most cash. When one team has 5 1/2 times the payroll of the lowest, there is a problem.

Until baseball fans get fed up with watching the same damn teams win championships year after year, nothing is going to change. The game will just turn into a showcase of talent for the 1-4 teams that can actually compete for a championship.

I honestly cannot understand how the yankees get so excited after winning their championships when it is more and more a forgone conclusion. How can you get excited for something that you bought?

Season after season the yankees just buy out the top talent in the league and, big surprise, they get to the playoffs year after year.

Until this changes, I just can't have enthusiasm for the game.
