I look at the player ratings from NFL Network, CBS and some others when they list the top 100. When a guy not listed anywhere there is taking very high then it's a reach. Also try to find the guy and see where he stands. Some years there is more overlap than others in the top 100 from the various sites. In the end I end up with a list of players somewhere in the 150 range. What I'm looking for is consensus. Overlap means consensus. When things diverge then I can't come to any consensus.
Can't knock that. It's a smart way to go if you're not looking to invest time in watching a lot of these guys play.

About this time last year, Todd McShay was releasing his top 32 and was including Whitney Mercilus. He had them ranked with a little blurb about each player. Mercilus' read basically:

"Whitney Mercilus is a powerful, wide-bodied defensive lineman who would be a perfect fit at nose tackle in a two gap 3-4 defense."

My first thought what WHAT?! and then I looked above the little comment and saw the height and weight listed for Mercilus: 6'4" 365. There had been a typo and consequently Mercilus was listed 100 lbs heavier than he really was. So apparently McShay got this list, saw the weight, knew NOTHING about the player, and made up something on the spot that seemed to match the size of the player.

What a CLOWN!
I do something similar to sj, just don't have the time to watch all that film.

That being said sj and I would likely be ten times the "analyst" that mcshay is

Lol I remember that. Seriously though, mcshay sucks. The sad part is that it was a top prospect he messed up on. Someone he should have known about.

No OLB? Barnes and Phillips free agents, English sucks, JJ can't get to the QB...

Ill say this about Mouton: if AJ misses with him there are no excuses. AJ had the entire crop of 2011 linebackers to choose from and he went with his guy from Michigan. AJ could have gone with Colin McCarthy or Kelvin Sheppard (my choices). Not only that, he felt so highly of him that he spent a 2nd round pick on the kid despite conventional wisdom being he would probably be there in the third.

I gave AJ the benefit of the doubt with the pick at the time, but Moutons persistent absence from the field has me concerned. If he busts, no excuses.

Anyone willing to get Brandon Jenkins coming off an injury on day 3 of the draft? Our starters for next year are probably Ingram and JJ unless we manage to bring Phillips back for a year or two. Barnes is most likely gone. English should be gone. So depth would be a problem.

I think he did miss on Mouton. Its not like he has the greatest competition to beat out to start. Maybe its time to look for another ILB.

My choice would be Kevin Minter in the 3rd.

Wow, missed a day, and Shock was laying down some lines. I'm with you Shock, together, we can kneecap Kemp and Woot. We shall win. They can have their top gun moments.
