I dunno. I remember seeing video clips on how P. Manning worked so hard on selling the play action. (This isn't one of them, but is a similar article and the pictures show his technique.)

He did take up kickboxing. His footwork looks better these days.

The full-on fake can be slightly more deceptive. The negative is that the QB's eyes aren't downfield as the eyes must be on the RB to insure that the extra deception doesn't result in a fumble.

Just doing this by memory (thousands of PR's plays burned into my cranium), PR's eyes remain downfield as he performs his half-assed fake, so it leads to a quicker decision being made on the pass. The pre-snap formation and initial movement off the snap are more than enough for PR to kill a defense when the running game is a threat.
