Default Why do the Bolts nearly always start off so slow?

Bucky Brooks said something in his recent interview about how the Bolts need to avoid starting off slow like they have in recent years. Why do the Chargers lose so many games early on? Is it because they play their starters so sparingly in the pre-season? Any other reasons?

We started fast in 2011 and 2014. Didn't do us a word of good did it?

This past season was two glaring reasons, imo.

1) Kicking game. This one is obvious. Lost to the Dolphins in a sure win if he makes it. Lost to the Broncos where all the momentum was in our favor. Missed a kick vs the Eagles when we lost by 2.

2) Coaching. We all saw growth out of Coach Lynn as the season progressed. Coaching mistakes and decisions we saw early in the season were not made later in the season. I have faith in Lynn after seeing him learn.

Close enough. New HC & most of his staff, moving to a new "home" & training facility probably had some impact.

This...and this.

Rivers is a December QB, not a September QB.

Anthony Lynn at 4-6 before the 2017 Thanksgiving game in Dallas:
"I am not afraid of the big picture. Coaches preach about a game at a time, and, of course, that is correct. But I want our team to know that everything is in front of them."

When you have Smith and Jones LLC sitting on the bench, Rivers had best be a Jan through Dec QB.

Good post!

I'd add - distractions - selling a home in SD, buying one in LA, getting the kids lined up for school, etc.

I would like to see Rivers and the first string offense at least play a complete half in the last two preseason games. That way, hopefully they get in sync under game conditions for the first regular season game.
