The Chargers fumble where they ruled him out of bounds was clearly the make up call to compensate for the ridiculous punt muff call.

I was literally screaming at the TV during that play... how can a fumble at the 5 yard line go backwards and become an advantage? It should have been a safety IMO... worst case scenario is they call the play dead at the point at which he fumbled. It is baffling. If this call is per rule of law... then it is a terrible rule. Really crushed our ability to get the momentum back at the time.

Today with all the focus on head injury, play is dead now, makes good sense. So I get the helmet and the hit to the head as a called dead ball. The thing that is tough is it was all in the end zone. Thus safety is what I thought. But Touch back? Is that because the ball was loose?

The best Offense is a good Defense.

I think it is because they didn't consider it a fumble... i.e. still in "kick return mode" rather than "running" mode.... which is lame... it was a fumble.

I tried to joke.

Tell me, isn't the bloody scalp essentially evidence that the BUF end zone returner "led with his helmet ?"

Why no missing front teeth ?

The call on Green wasn't that he was out of bounds before he fumbled.

The call was that he fumbled before going out of bounds, but, being the last player in possession before the fumble, he touched the ball while being out of bounds, thus ending the play.

Terrible rule, I know, but right application of it.

Doesn't compensate for the ridiculous punt call.
Someone said it, Everytime the ball is punted within the 5 yard line, just bat it backwards towards the endzone and it's a touchback. Pathetic
