Didnt he also get pulled over/booked right before the play off game vs the Jets as well?

Yes, he got pulled over and was caught driving with a suspended license. I guess he liked to drive too much. When Chargers' players had too much to drink, there was a private number they could call to get a ride home. That applies to his 2 DUIs, which led to the suspended license. So, it was all unnecessary really.

He was arrested for DUI a second time in the early Tuesday morning hours a few days before the playoff game against the Steelers (a loss)

Then the morning of the Chargers' next playoff game (against the Jets) 2 years later, he was pulled over near Chargers Park for blasting music at an ear-splitting level along with having illegally tinted windows. When the officer checked his driver's license, he discovered that VJ was driving on a suspended license (due to his 2nd DUI conviction). The officer could have arrested VJ and had him booked which would have resulted in him missing the Jets game. Instead, the officer had his car towed and VJ called PR to give him a ride from Chargers Park to the Q.

VJ went on to have a very poor game against the Jets, allowing Revis to pull his arms apart and dislodge the ball on the first INT of the game instead of the Chargers having a 1st down on the Jets 20 yard line. Then he broke off a route instead of coming back to the ball when PR threw his second INT of the game from his own goal line. That led to a Jets TD.

Yeah, sadly the Chargers got tired of VJ's act before the 2010 holdout, and it was due to the 2 DUI's and suspended license issue on playoff gameday.

Yeah, my memory is a bit fuzzy but everyone who still is upset about the chargers not extending VJ tends to not mention any of this. Looks like he cleaned up his act in Tampa Bay, but yeah wasnt worth the risk IMO.

Yes playing for the Chargers will drive you to drink. Foley had that incident after drinking, Sproles and Cro and the champagne bottle. In 2007 when LT called the players only meeting that helped turn that season around he challenged guys to sacrifice by giving up drinking.

Amazingly, you left off the flag kicking penalty in the revisionist history above. VJ actually had a pretty good game against the Jets. Over 100 yards if memory serves. Revis made an amazing play on that pick and he was easily the best CB in the game at the time. Hard to blame VJ for that. The int gets blamed on anyone other than Rivers for some reason. Even though he threw it right to Jim Leonhard. Oh well.

He hasn't had a single issue in TB. Odd

Like every thread in this forum that lasts for any length of time, it veers off on different tangents.
