Does anyone know how many career sacks the Chargers have against Manning? (Knockdowns, Hurryups etc. also would be nice).

I know we like to think that pressuring Manning is the key to beating him, but that premise is false. First off it's not possible to consistantly pressure a Qb with a four man rush. Secondly Manning is one of the best Qbs in the league at beating the blitz. So the blitz packages have to be very well disguised. Thirdly Manning passes so much that even a sack or two during a drive will not necessarily slow him down. If we could get in his face, that would be great as any Qb with big DL and LBs in his face is going to have issues. This would be great on third downs, but there is no guarantees.

But the real key to beating Manning is to out smart him. He likes to read a defense so you have to give him looks that deceive him. Do a good job of covering his receivers and he gets fustrated. This is what the Chargers have always done well against him. If he thinks there will be a blitz he will change his call at the LOS. When there isn't he'll be throwning into coverage. Likewise when he guesses wrong the blitz surprises him, So the key is to give him looks that he mis-reads. This doesn't guarantee success but it does level the playing field because when Manning correctly reads the D the results are disasterous for that D.

1.4 sacks a game, not much and not surprising. He reads the blitz well and is quick to get rid of the ball. The key is to surprise him by having him mis-read the defense. If he doesn't expect pressure he is more likely to call a late developing play (long pass) and that's when you have the opportunity to get to him.

We showed one and two safety help and kept everything in front of our DBs last time. We were pretty good at disguising the blitz and did not allow any big plays. That was a big key to our win.

Manning has great stats, but until he wins another Super Bowl I wouldn't classify him as the best NFL QB ever (as some have). And I don't think his Donkos will win it all this year.
