What makes you think that was TT's find? That smells like scouts and/or coaches making a passionate plea to TT about what they thought was a real find...TT may have a scouting background, but at that time, seems he had plenty of other duties, and made judgements based off of presentations from his scouting staff.

High profile prospects are one thing, but later round guys have to be presented, with reports, film, and a pitch...unless TT had connections down there who made a call to him direct...I figure someone sold this to him.

Hopefully he’s not on the staff anymore.

Hmmm. They are convinced by what they determine based on available intel and thoughts from those that provide input. Just do not see a GM knowingly making a reach pick. That have got to believe they are good enough or have a higher ceiling tha others are ranking. My point if they think he is a reach they will not make that pick.

My point is 'they' meaning the GM, do not think the player is a reach. That belief is contrary to all the clubs' information. That GM will face serious counter views in the time they have before decision has to happen, and in virtually all cases they back away from the pick, but that GM will swear not taking that player is a mistake.....for years. Eventually there is enough evidence, and somebody wins.....it isn't the GM very often.

To be fair, I am heavily influence by Timmins' style, and a big rule for him is never reach......another one is never fall in love. (he is talking a player you just got to have)

I'm for staying put or even trading down (I think we can still get a year 1 impact player later in the first, it just might not be the guy we were initially targeting) so that we have extra picks.

But if we were to acquire additional picks in a scenario that found ourselves trading Verrett, Benjamin, or T-Will, then I'd be for moving up to target a player like Vea, James, or Fitzpatrick. Players like Barkley and Chubb would cost way too much; more than I'd like to give up, anyway.
