Congrats to you both, awesome news !

I'm happy for you, and can't wait to see pics several months down the road.

Don't worry, it's only about 4 - 5 months until the baby should start sleeping through the night. You'll be fine

F1 drivers do 5g's in heavy braking areas which pretty much every track has so they do it at the least 50 times in 2 hours. They then have the high g force corners. The max g force that an F1 driver reaches isn't the same as a Fighter Pilot unless they crash but they are constantly having to deal with fairly high g forces for a fair amount of time.

We don't pull them for 2 hours steady. But neither do the drivers. I don't want to say it's not a work out for them, because it surely is. They must be exhausted after two hours of on-and-off pulling of up to 5g's. Especially tossing in the negative g's, which are really uncomfortable.

But it's really no contest. A fighter pilot will pull 7 or more g's for an extended time -- much longer than a turn in an F-1 car carries a turn (BTW that was the big advance of the F/A 18 -- it can pull g's for longer while bleeding less airspeed. Jets slow down, obviously, while pulling g's due to the extra drag). But more to the point -- once you've got your body to where it can pull 8-9 g's, 5 is pretty much candy (though over time it will seriously tire you out). Remember that G forces affects on the heart and lungs increase exponentially, not in a linear manner. (6 is double the force of 5; 7 doubles 6, and so on).

I got up to 9.5 once in a centrifuge for about 5-10 seconds. I clipped 10 g's for a second. Next day I called my flight surgeon in a panic. I had red dots all over my arms and legs. He laughed and told me I had "the G measles." Turns out that at a certain force your capillaries burst. That kind of grossed me out.

From what I've read, no. BTW, it is a common belief that G-suits move blood up. Actually, they are just a tool to aid the pilot. When pulling high G's, the pilot is doing maximum isometric flexing of all of his muscles. And above 7 g's, I mean MAXIMUM. You are drenched in sweat and dang tired after a full on series of dogfights -- and some attack profiles that require high G's. The suit, with its bladders on the stomach, lower legs, and upper legs, simply provides some resistance for you to flex your muscles against. The blood is being forced by the G forces out of your brain, and below the heart, so all the flexing is designed to constrict everything so much that the blood can't leave the upper portions -- that it has nowhere to go. The bladders assist in the flexing.

If you read the medical literature, it is actually disgusting to read about the stretching of the aorta, what is happening to the heart, and the alveoli in the lungs actually collapsing . . . breathing, in a normal sense, is impossible. You hope you can grab thimble-fuls of air at a time.
