With the 38th pick in 2017 draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select Joe Mixon. RB. Oklahoma.

Per CBSSports:

Quote:
NFL GM:

"Zach is a very talented linebacker. Possibly the most polished all around linebacker prospect (I've) seen in years. (Cunningham) made it very clear that he prefers to play the outside when meeting with out front office. We told him he could play Defensive Tackle is he prefers, if we select him."

This isn't the first report of Cunningham expressing his desire to play in a SAM or WILL linebacker role in the NFL. Earlier this year Head Coach Derek Mason strongly urged that teams not pigeon hole the talented linebacker into a strictly Inside role...
If Cunningham can play as our SAM or WILL, I'd have no problem with him at 7. I need to watch more tape of him playing the outside. I know he can cover, He can rush, He can carry a Defense. This could be the pick no one sees coming. A true TT move.

I wouldnt take this guy at 7. Maybe 3rd through 5th Rd., but definitely not with the 7th pick in the first round.

3rd through 5th round???

He's a consensus top 20 pick. What do you see that makes you think otherwise?

He's a stick figure. A beanpole . Light of weight. I see that he's active, but his tackling form isn't that great. I think the Chargers needs are better served by one of the top safeties, one of the better defensive lineman, one of the two top wide recievers, or Ramzcyk with the 7th pick. And then rinse and repeat in the 2nd round. The only way this guy woud be in a cluster for me would be in the 3rd through 5th round. I don't care where other people rank him.

He led the SEC in tackles. Only twice in 2016 did he touch a player he didnt bring down. That's insane. Not sure where you think his tackling form is anything short of great. He had 16+ TFLs. He crushes runners. smells them out and doesnt let them stand a chance.

I understand the concept of drafting for need, but OLB is a buge need for us, especially moving to Gusleys scheme.

I encourage you to revisit his tape.

The models show Cunningham first popping up around pick 17. 17-24 is the most likely landing spot. He definitely will be gone well before round 3-5, and is certainly a reach at 7 given our team needs. Good player though, no question. Looks fast on tape, albeit undersized.

I see that we've reached the time of year when folks are just throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks.

I would be very happy if the Chargers drafted Ramczyk at 7 and Dion Dawkins at 38.

Okung and his contract would suggest that he is a "bridge" player.

The identity of the Chargers would be transformed.

Okung plus a parlay of one, even two, high round offensive linemen would be fantastic.
I'm torn in that same way.

Think I'll make up 2 scenarios - what I expect and what I would like.
