Mathews ran a faster 40. But Gordon's 20 yd short shuttle time was considerably faster than Mathews. Translation: Quicker with better change of direction speed.

It looks like Mathews finally was taught about hydration. We had some discussions about that while he was here.

THE KEY to Ryan Mathews remaining healthy might just lie in an analogy between beef jerky and an uncooked steak.

Beef jerky is dry and easy to pull apart. But a good piece of meat, fresh out of the package?

LT at BUF in 2006 or 2007. I was there!!!! At the moment, I stood up (is it the good writing form of that verb?) and said 3 times:«He is gone.» Then, LT was in the end zone.

It is clear in my head that Gordon has more chances to do that than Matthews.

Is it just me, or does he sound like Bobby Boucher from the Water Boy.. Drink more water? Really? In a four month span he broke both of his clavicles. Yeah Mathews, you should have drank more water..

Whats the Longest run we as fans witnessed after L.T? I'm thinking Ronnie Browns Playoff run, SMH! Hope Gordon breaks alot of big runs this year.

"It's not about me trying to stay healthy," Mathews said. "It's all part of the luck.

Good Luck Philly, your going to need it!

The interesting point of the article to me was his statement that he "never thought about" and in general seemed uninformed about a lot of health/fitness issues...

Considering the multiple years of high injury counts for the team, it does make one wonder about the S&C staff.

But now, Mathews is learning - like so many in coach Chip Kelly's system do - a little bit about sports science and staying healthy.
"There's a lot of unknowns coming into here with my health and stuff," said Mathews, who was drafted 12th overall by San Diego in 2010 out of Fresno State. "I didn't know a lot. I thought just working out every day and making sure I'm in shape and strong and stuff was the main focus. Now that I look back on it, I was very, very dehydrated. That was one thing that I never really focused on.
