Home made mash tun (where the cracked grain is soaked in hot water).

Mash. It must soak for an hour or so.

After mashing comes sparging, which uses more water, this time hotter. All the starches have to be extracted from the grain -- without the bad stuff. That's the trick. Well, that's one trick.

The SOD has ahold of you again, doesn't it? I'm cranky all the time.

Now, isn't there a garden somewhere you should be standing in?

Somehow, I don't think Coleman had that in mind when they designed that cooler. But looks like it works well.

Don't you have some kids to chase off the lawn.

Negative. The perimeter is secure. Floodlights are on, claymores are armed, and there are trip flares at 10 foot intervals inside the wire.

And now that Cars is finished for the 237th time ... I'm gonna tuck my son in, and call it a night myself.

I hope X had a good time at the concert.

See you peeps in the morning.

Thanks.

Actually, I went cheap. Should have bought a better insulated cooler, but this was only $20, so...

My brother's wife has a best friend who lives in SD. Her husband (following this ) is an 'amateur' brewer. His whole garage has been converted into a brewery. He has it almost on auto-pilot. Dude is an expert.

I'll never be that much into it, but it is fun to see something come out delicious. Seems like there's so much black magic in it.

I enjoy seeing the pictures. I home brewed 6 or 7 batches with some roommates in grad school and then never got back to it (and haven't had a drink since either). It's fun stuff. Keep the pics coming.
