I agree. You can't bet on making the playoffs with 8 or 9 wins. This team needs a dominant December in order to make up for underperforming in Sep, Oct and Nov. Here is our record entering December under Norv.
2012: 4-7 (1-1 in Dec so far)
2011: 4-7 (finished 8-8)
2010: 6-5 (finished 9-7)
2009: 8-3 (finished 13-3)
2008: 4-7 (finished 8-8)
2007: 6-5 (finished 11-5)

Unfortunately, 87% of this team's losses (from 2007-2011) came in Sep, Oct and Nov.. We're on pace for that again. That's only OK if you're the Giants and are able to rally late to get into the playoffs and win rings.

These slow starts and likely 3 years of missing the playoffs are unacceptable and everyone (including Norv, AJ and Dean) knows it.

I'm hoping that we can salvage this season but our chances for next year seem far more promising...especially if we can get a top 10 draft pick.

There is a big weekend of games ahead. Last week's win dropped our draft spot from #6 to #12. The following games involve teams drafting ahead of us.

NYJ @ TEN
DET @ ARI
CAR @ SD
KC @ OAK
WAS @ CLE
SEA @ BUF
JAC @ MIA

A loss on Sunday would eliminate us from playoff contention and likely put us back in the top 10 of the 2013 draft.

I can definitely see Tennessee winning that game.

Arizona will most likely lose again (although that's what everyone said about our game last week). At least that would put Detroit another win up.

Carolina could legitemately beat us. They've been playing much better of late on both sides of the ball. And our struggles against mobile QB's are well-documented. And it's not like one abberation of a game suddenly makes our OL good.

The Chiefs and Raiders are both going to be picking ahead of us regardless.

If RGIII can't play, I see a win for the Browns. They have been playing better lately.

Buffalo I could see losing, but Seattle typically sucks on the road. Hopefully that's the case this week.

Henne might have a little something extra for his old team. The Jags are a lot better with him at the helm. But then, if the Dolphins lose they could threaten to jump ahead of us.

I can realistically see 5/6 games go the way we want for draft purposes.

First off ando, this is a great researched post

Our defense should have us panting like dogs and drooling all over stuff in the offseason. Our D in Pittsburgh (especially in the first half) were playing completely out of their freaking minds.

Just think of the experience and gelling that went on this year, and what it means for next season.

Can't count on ANYTHING being similar next year. Who knows, we may play Tampa2 next year. A new regime is a little bit worrisome when it comes to the positives about ur team

Of course there is no absolute certainty, but I think we can make some pretty good guesses- especially if Jimmy Raye is indeed going to be at the helm. A GM from in-house is less likely to blow everything up. To me it would make a lot more sense for him to try and maintain status quo on defense and find a staff that he believes can improve the offense and salvage Philip Rivers.

I'd be stoked if Raye became the next GM

If he handles free agency better than A.J., then he will probably be a marked improvement.

Stoked means I would really like the move. It wasn't a typo

I think a good portion of the Chargers recent draft successes is due to Raye taking a more active role in the process. But that is just my speculation.
