Default Barksdale signs with the Cards.

So, Joe Barksdale gets hurt earlier this year and loses his starting job to Sam Tevi. Then after he gets healthy, he still rides the bench. Then Barks fails to report for the Steeler game, and we are led to believe it was because he was suffering from depression or some other mental issue. Then the Bolts release him. A lot of us thought he was going to take the rest of the season off, get things together, then maybe either retire from football and do the music thing, or possibly sign with another team.

But no. TWO days after leaving the Bolts, Barks signed with the Cardinals. So, he went from a 10-3 team, poised for the playoffs for the first time in years, to a 3-10 team. Wow...just...wow. That was fast.

If Barks would have left the Bolts and taken off the rest of the season to supposedly get things together emotionally, as initially reported, then signed with another team in the off season, I might buy the so-called mental health rationale. But the fact that Barks left us and then signed with the Cards TWO days later makes me think either he pulled a fast one, or was disgruntled because he lost his starting job to Tevi. Or maybe a combination of both.

Totally bizarre, and also selfish. Barks let his team down right when we are in all probability making a playoff run. We could have used him for depth in case Tevi or Okung were to get hurt. Whatever happened to being a member of a team? Of sacrificing your ego and play a supporting role in the hopes of helping your team win?

Both. Barksdale looks like a liar now. Lied about why he quit the Chargers.

Eh. As I said in the another thread. Wish him the best but good riddance. Way overdue.

What has he done for the chargers lately? Nothing. Better to cut the dead weight and open up a roster spot. No crying over spilled milk

Barks almost reminds me of Lazy Gaither, the only difference being that Barks pulls a fast one to ditch one team, then keep playing with another, whereas Gaither pulled a fast one and took his $20+ mil, laughed all the way to the bank and then "retired." Hope the Cards have some team friendly language and an easy out in that contract, because once a player starts pulling stunts like this, it could happen again.

The problem with your narrative is that Barksdale didn’t quit the Chargers. The Chargers released him. I haven’t seen anything that said he failed to report for the Steelers game. They didn’t activate him for what they described as “personal reasons”. Maybe he was *******g about playing time, maybe not. Who knows.

Chargers have been supportive of Barksdale. Just don't know if he has shown appreciation of that on his end. The unavailability this season and last was not what Lynn expects of any player. It's one thing to be not contributing when your not playing due to injury...how much of this was due to his depression? It's December where personal stressors can happen but in professional football December is jockeying time for playoff positions and the Chargers need him....he's let them down so the Chargers say sayonara.

It is what it is again best of luck to Barksdale but we gotta division win and we're going to do it with people who are willing to lay down their ego and contribute starter or not. It's for the best for both parties moving forward.

Coach said “he had a nice talk” with bark before he was released. Being he was released signed and right away started, my guess is he was upset with being benched. Told the coach he wants to start and asked to be released.

Obviously his butt hurt feelings kept him out of a game or two. We all thought it was depression.
