But that wasn't the question. Maybe you don't understand the question ? (this is me being SUPER generous).

I suppose maybe you've never coached teams with players on their way up . . . . If you had, you'd know that there are players with natural talent who never deliver on their expectations because they lack fortitude. And there are lesser-talented players who go farther than you would have thought because they are chock full of desire, perseverance, and attitude.

Say otherwise and it'll be quite apparent that you're either lying, or naive.

First off, I do not coach.....I scout.

That said, I clearly see players that are ascending due to talent, and also see players ascending that are doing so off of determination more than raw talent. We are talking about the top rung of the ladder though (NHL and NFL), and every player at that level have all of the qualities we are both mentioning. A classic example would be a player such as Brad Marchand of the Bruins, who has been portrayed by the media as a 'pest' type player, even an instigator type...yet he is incredibly talented as seen in the recent WCH tournament. Another would be J. Drouin, super talented young player that was sorta cruising along last season with little effort to improve his game, thinking he had it made because of the talent he had. What he found was his being demoted out of the NHL. That demotion was all about trying to get his attention and focus going in the correct direction, and the talk was it could go either way.....he might become one of those talented players that is a bust despite the talent. I don't know if his failure (if it happens) will be due to a lack of fortitude, but certainly there was something lacking.
