Default 2019 Draft: Free Safeties

Addae was given a chance to secure the free safety position. Many of us had doubts he could be effective there. It's pretty obvious that he should move back to strong safety... probably in a reserve roll behind Derwin James. Rayshawn Jenkins has shown promise/improvement but probably is merely depth there. FS is probably our biggest need... along with OT and DT.

Who do you like...? Here are some of the guys I'm looking at:

1st: Deionte Thompson, Alabama

2nd: Juan Thornhill, Virginia

3rd: Darnell Savage Jr., Maryland

It's a deep class. I like Adderly, Johnson, and Hartage best of those you've listed. I think Jones and Battle end up being SS's. Would like to see more of Hartage in a deep-safety situation.

I do want to see Nasir, Ugo, Montre get reps at deep safety in the Senior Bowl. All 3 have simular play styles, attributes, and skill sets. Nasirís cousin is HOFer Herb Adderley.
Battle may not have the speed/range as LSU plays a lot of cover 2 when not manned up.
Brandon is a pure FS imo. He has speed/range, excellent tackler, and really has improved his game as a junior this year. If he comes out he is my kind of prospect.

Got any tape of Brandon Jones playing deep safety? The only tape I've seen of him has him playing close to the LOS... mainly playing the run.

Just YouTube - 2018 University of Texas Football vs.
Youíll get several full games to watch without commercials. He plays mostly deep safety but is flexible in coverage and run support.

will put some rounds on 'emÖ.

1) Deionte Thompson * not gonna make it to twentysomething
2) Darnell Savage * projects to FS but sounds like a pure bred SS
3) Montre Hartage * if Bradley has much if any say in things, guessin' he'll scratch the small/short order fries in favor of the tall boys
4) Nasir Adderly * didn't know 'bout the Herb Adderly connection.... pretty/very cool
5) Chris Johnson * haven't zeroed in on him, albeit he has put on the requisite weight, and.... personally, missed on Harrison Smith, so will be giving this guy the benefit of the doubt 'til proven otherwise.... my choice atm for FS for us.
6) Jordan Fuller * moved from SS to FS this season
7) Mike Edwards * Tony Pauline has him as a third rounder

Mike Edwards range/play speed concern me a little transitioning to the NFL but tackles, ballskills, and solid instincts.

Savage & Adderley play a combo safety but are regularly in deep zone coverage and plays well. He can also match up with WRs in man well too.

Montre is a projection as he has played outside CB for NW.

Do you like Brandon Jones if he comes out?

at first glance Jones seemed of some intrigue, albeit reading that he likely returns to school and that he's a box safety/big nickel.... seems like he's solid as a player, just not feeling it so much w/him atm.... (on the intangibles side, he does seem more SS than free)

Deionte is in a class by himself, and we would def be the Legion of KaBoom if we paired him w/James.

do think John Spanos is gonna like Chris Johnson, and personally liked Jordan Fuller initially, albeit he seems to be fading from prominence/acclaim of late.

haven't really zeroed in on/taken to any one player quite yet @FS.

do like a coupla few CBs tho, and that might be the better way to go w/our draft capital ??

am intrigued by your Justin Layne, and see a bit of Ahkello Witherspoon 2.0 to him, and still like Amani Oruwariye and Kendall Sheffield for us.

also like Clayton Geathers and Eric Reid in FA for us next offseason.
