Default 2019 Draft: Defensive Tackles

A lot of moving parts when it comes to this position. Mebane is up there in age, a UFA, and has a young child dealing with a health problem. Liuget is nearing the end of his 2nd contract and will have to rehab from injury. His contract is structured to count $9.5 million against the cap next year but will only count $1.5 million in dead money if he was released. Darius Philon and Damian Square are both UFA's at the end of the season.

What do you want to see the Chargers do? Which draft prospects do you like? Which rounds?

At the 1-tech position, I like: Derrick Brown (Auburn), Raekwon Davis (Alabama), and Dexter Lawrence (Clemson). Any of these guys could go in the 1st round according to experts. I would even throw Christian Wilkins into the mix (although experience is at 3-tech).

Mid/late round guys include: Greg Gaines (Washington), Daylon Mack (Texas A&M), Chris Slayton (Syracuse), and Kingsley Keke (Texas A&M)... more of a 3-tech.

Any others you've seen and like...?

At the 3-tech position: I assume that Ed Oliver and Quinnen Williams will be gone. I like Christian Wilkens in the 1st round. Haven't made my mind up about Jeffery Simmons, yet. Leaning against him as he had a violent altercation with a woman and the game-tape I've seen is inconsistent.

Mid/late rounders I like: Ricky Walker (Virginia Tech), Renell Wren (Arizona State), Youhanna Ghaifan (Wyoming), and Daniel Wise (Kansas).

Any others you can recommend...?

Demarcus Christmas FL State.
If he falls.

Ricky Walker on your list has some potential.

TBH, although the draft is deep, I project us to go EDGE over IDL.

I have us keeping everybody and building overall defensive depth.

think Mack is gonna be an NFL starting Dlineman, and ditto for Gaines, neither of which would I mind as Chargers, and.... like all the first guys you mention save for Raekwon who I want nothing to do w/due to intangibles, and thinkin' he's more a 5T that can play in the middle on sub packages ??

and he doesn't have so much in the way of production, so am hoping that Olive Sagapolu drops out of the draft as an UDFA for us.

can't get on board w/any of these as not sure any of 'em are any much better than our 3T Justin Jones ??

I personally think Perryman has played his last down for the Chargers unless there's no interest for him in the free-agent market and he comes back on a one-year deal. He's never stayed healthy. I'm all in on CJ Mosley. He is exactly the middle linebacker the Chargers need to make this an elite defense. 26 years old. 6-2 241 3x Pro Bowl. Only missed three games in his career. Averages over 100 tackles a year & has had over 130 tackles twice in his career. 8 career interceptions. He's an absolute leader of the Ravens defense.

I wouldn't mind a backup to Bosa or Ingram. We know what we have in Bosa. If you're going edge so soon, is it because you believe Ingram may go on the decline?

The only DTs I like staying are Philon and Jones. The rest can be done away with.

What inconsistent film did you see on Simmons? I only watched a little bit but it seemed impressive to me, but I need to watch more.

Watch Tillery... elite size, strength and explosion. powerful hands. Think Buckner lite or McDowell. Character questions like with Simmons.
