The Chargers defense do prey on inexperienced, young QB's. Patrick Mehomes is known for having a big arm. Throwing deep on the Chargers is not a good ideal, though.

Unless its a run 60 pass 40 it's still going to be difficult for mahomes as a rookie. If the chargers are even half-way ready we should win against them on pure talent alone. All the chargers have to do is run a competent offense all season and let the defense rock n roll...

Pretty much. Defense is the Chargers strongest unit. The offense can help the D by putting up points that make the other guys more one dimensional and give the D some bench time when it's working but they won't need to press to carry a weak defense. O & D will have each others' backs.
STs coverage & return units should be pretty hot too what with the speed & youth at a lot of Chargers positions.

KC's defense wasn't anything special last year and doesn't look to be as good without Peters.
Their strength was offense. Smith, Hill, Kelce and RB Hunt. Now it'll be Mahomes' O vs LAC D. We definitely have a shot.

Peters killed the Bolts. Happy to see out of the division.
KC’s D will get a big boost from the return of Eric Berry.

Hunt ran all over us last year, hopefully we can stuff the run so mahomes does need to air it out. Alex smith ddnt exactly have to beat us last year.

Andy Reid really kept the lid on the offence last night. Mahomes played two series, looked anything but special, completed four short passes, missed Kelce badly, sacked once (stepped into it)......just not enough played downs to evaluate him.

Thanks frozendisc.

Seems like he threw lots of check down passes: maybe they didn't really get rid of Alex Smith. Interior pressure against him is key: he loves to climb up the pocket. Defensive coordinators will send blitzes thru A gaps repeatedly, & disguise coverages. It will be a year long learning curve for him.

Check downs might be attributable to confusion with coverage schemes or the sheer speed of play. That wouldn't be a good sign for KC, given the simplicity of preseason defenses.

Phil Simms said that he hated the first two weeks of the season because the defenses were too healthy & played too fast. Just imagine how the raw Mahomes will feel? Slow down the running game & the Chargers will win going away.

In two 2017 games Hunt carried the ball 41 times for 297 yds and 1 TD.
Smith threw 39 completions for 386 yds, 4 TDs.

Hunt's YPC against us was ridiculous but Smith did the most damage on the scoreboard.
Glad to see Smith gone. Very solid QB.

It's a fact that our run D & tackling need to be better. We added talent & speed to the D. Bradley is coaching run D principles. We should be better but will believe it when I see it.

Mahomes has a solid offensive line to protect him and run block for him. Hardwick says KC's line is tops in the league comparable to the Eagles offensive line.

We have to improve our run defense against the Chiefs. They outplayed us and allowed Smith to have manageable downs and he was able to open up the offense for big throws down field.

Last night, was not a great baseline to start the season. If Mebane continues to be shoved around like a rag doll, he may not be around by the first game. Nwosu and James looked solid in their debut. Something to build on.
