Montreal made a brilliant move when they re-hired Julien after your nemesis Bruins fired him. I was hoping that he would land elsewhere ...

I cannot remember why New Jersey fired him in 2006/07 after only one year...

ROW does have some significance, as it is the first tie breaker in the standings... but yes, GF-GA much more telling as we get to the 30 game mark... Tampa, LA and St. Louis are the top three...

Jules is a solid HC, and he is French......

NJ had a bit of an issue in their room, if I recall things correctly that I might have heard.

Very interesting three teams....different styles, yes ?

Another three point game between Boston and Detroit... Makes it difficult to climb in the standings...

and that is why I hate 3 point games......it just rewards both teams to play for a tie.

A proposal I recently heard: Any team that is trailing with 5 minutes left in the game, and manages to win that game in regulation time, receives 4 points.

What do you think ?

Very interesting... I would have to think about that one and how it would influence the game...

My first reaction is four points is just too much of a variance from a standard two point win and it would result in skewed standings... Solid teams that always have a lead would be less rewarded than lesser teams that have the odd comeback when down with 5 minutes to go... I need more analysis on that one...

Clarification.....the team behind at the 5 minute mark is the only team eligible to win 4 points.

The better teams will just close out games as they normally will. The trailing teams will try for that tying goal just as energetically as they always have. In the event it does get tied, at the very least, one team will be playing hard for the regulation win.

I doubt there would be any significant impact to standings, as I would guess the '4 point night' would be extremely rare.....but it (coming from behind late to win it in Reg.) does happen, and when it does there is always much media interest.

Glad to see that Mr. Melnyk provided an upbeat, positive media session and kept the focus on the NHL 100th anniversary outdoor game...

Talk about darkening a brand on what was supposed to be a great weekend. Go Habs Go ce soir!
