The St. Louis Blues also made it to the Stanley Cup finals as an expansion team in 1967-68, but of course there were only 12 teams in the league back then.

Look for the next NHL expansion team to more resemble the 1974-75 Capitals franchise than the 2017-18 Knights.

Might have to dust off the Habs credentials and visit Florida.....

On another note, there is an interesting article about scouting for NHL players in The Hockey News current edition. Might give some on here a bit of insight on how/why I see things differently than most.

*it was a reasonable depiction of the process

I hope you get to go.

It would be great to see the tough, goal scoring hockey player, Ovechkin, win the Cup..

I once met Barry Trotz on the streets of San Jose...lol...he was a jerk...musta been in Stanley Cup Playoff mode.

I will also make sure to read the Hockey News article, to get inside the mind of frozendisc.

However, the Polian Bible will be a tough act to follow.

It was pretty simple, just had to ask......sent you a PM

If the Caps lose, I think it will crush Ovechkin's motivation to play much longer in NHL.

I don't know Trotz, but hear he is a very solid coach that is well liked.

It is a short article, nothing too elaborate or detailed.

Trotz got some average Peds teams to play competitive hockey.

The funny thing about my encounter with him was that I happened to run into him, recognized him, and before I could say "Hi Coach, good luck in the playoffs !" he started swearing at me. Maybe he's made too many trips to Boston Garden as a visiting coach. Yeah, I respect his chops.

The Caps have buried several long-standing curses this evening.

They have come a long way from the time when I was a young teen watching the 74-75 edition spend literally minutes trying to get the puck over their own blue line while their goalie (Ron Lowe, I believe) would face an avalanche of shots on goal.
