![]() It's a QB driven league.
When Rivers does not throw interceptions Chargers win 74% of those games. When he throws just 1 interception Chargers win 50% of those games. When Rivers throws 2 or more Chargers win 34% of those games. I know this is very simplified. And often the special teams and defense has not be stellar. But for his career, Rivers should know to check himself. Never throw 50/50 balls. Never throw into double coverage. Throw to single coverage and to the open grass. Climb the pocket or slide in pocket and make a clean throw or take the sack or throw it away. And he has shown many times, he can play a very clean game. But he also has shown he will make careless decisions with the football. Will get carried away and go for deep shots that are just not there. He has a gunslinger mentality. Funny thing is...when he plays with a game manager mentality, takes what the defense gives him and doesn't make any careless throws, the team wins more games. In past 2 seasons. Rivers has 31 interceptions. 11 in the 1st half of games. 20 in the 2nd half of games. For whatever reason, he is more reckless later in the game when protecting the football is even more important. He is very hard to trust in 4th quarter of close games.

![]() Remember how Drew Brees struggled his first year or two, but how well he played right after the Bolts drafted Rivers? It seems to have lit a fire under the entrenched QB in that case. Regardless of whether we do it to motivate Rivers or not, we do need to draft his replacement.

![]() how can he go from SUCH STELLAR play the last 4-5 weeks and then have a TOTAL brainfart of a game? And to do it in the BIGGEST game of the year that would put them in the driver's seat for AFC west title? starting to think more and more that he just doesnt have the clutch factor AT ALL in big games. im not for starting anyone else over him cuz they all suck but MAN!!!...he's a 100 year veteran and still makes BONEHEADED throws. maybe he DOESNT want to make it into the POs so he can spend more time with his family.

2001 - Brees drafted by Bolts, plays only 1 game 2002 - Brees plays first full season--17 TD's, 16 picks, QBR: 76.9 2003 - Brees has 11 TD's, 15 picks, QBR: 67.5 2004 - Brees has his first decent season: 27 TD's, 7 picks, QBR: 104.8 Wow, so ask yourself, what happened JUST before the 2004 season? What suddenly lit a fire under Brees? That's right...Rivers got drafted! Case closed.

![]() The late Bill Walsh made arrangements for Steve Young to come to San Francisco for that same reason. He did this with all his talented players. Once you reach the law of diminishing returns, you get a player who can do the job or be behind the person who does the job to maintain their performance. Coach Walsh was brilliant. Some say cold as ice in that he didn't treat his players well. He basically told Young that he was going to be the starting QB of the 49ers. Joe was hurt and wasn't coming back. Young bought it hook line and sinker. The guys handled it well and both supported each other. But there was tension there in part of what Walsh had done.
Montana continued to start after a debate back and forth on who was the starting QB partly created by Walsh. He ultimately led the 49ers to two more Super Bowls. The law works considering he did it to all his players. Walsh did regret this after the fact but he wanted to have a shot at winning more championships. It's time to do it for Rivers.
