We signed another, Baylor CB Ryan Reid. Should be good competition.
You sure we are not gonna keep 11 DBs ?

Crunch out 53.

Philon, Dzubnar, Mager, Trevor, McCoil are on the bubble. IMHO.

Backup WILL. Onwualu, Harris, Moore. LB #6.

We have five keepers at LB. Perryman. Jatavis. Emanuel. Perry. Toomer.

It's all a numbers game.

Thoughts...?

I'm cautiously optimistic. I mean for the most part Lynn seems to be the opposite of McCoy so who wouldn't like that?

Also I just saw that we'll be holding joint practices vs the Saints. That should be fun.

Cornerback Michael Davis fits the mold: At 6-2 and 195 pounds, Michael Davis, an undrafted rookie out of Brigham Young, fits the prototype of a long, rangy cornerback in defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s Cover 3 scheme. Davis ran a 4.4-second, 40-yard time at his pro day.

With starting cornerbacks Jason Verrett and Casey Hayward still nursing injuries, Davis put his considerable skills on display with the starting unit, breaking up a couple of passes during team drills.

Trevor Williams and Trovon Reed worked with the starters at cornerback when the Chargers were in base defense. However, when the team went with five defensive backs, Williams kicked inside to slot defender and Davis took his spot on the perimeter.

“He was a really good pickup for us,” Lynn said about Davis. “We’ll see when we get the pads on and play real football. But right now, he’s really standing out.”

His BYU Bio:

He had an off field incident @ BYU that was later dismissed/reduced:

Several websites claim he ran a 4.34 forty at his pro day .... Cornerback Michael Davis was clocked at 4.34 in the 40, which would have ranked No. 4 at the Combine. It would have been No. 2 among corners

I don't know whether he'll turn out to be an UDFA gem or not, we'll all get to see, but he's an interesting/intriguing guy to keep an eye on, he played WR in HS, KR too, switched to DB @ BYU.

Go Chargers!
That is Trovon Reed's story as well. Another player that made a late switch to CB from WR was Richard Sherman. It would be nice to have on of these guys make that kind of transition.

I consider not a strong probability.

Let's set defense at 25 for the sake of discussion. I'll toss out some numbers & names knowing that things will change by the time cuts are made. We haven't really seen them yet.

LEO- 3
Attaochu, Ingram, Landrum
DE/DT- 6
Bosa, Liuget, Mebane, Palepoi, Reid, Square
LB - 6
Brown, Dzubnar, Emanuel, Perry, Perryman, Toomer
CB- 5
Hayward, King, Mager, Reed, Verrett
S - 5
Addae, Boston, Jenkins, McCoil, Phillips

My thought is he who stays away from the Eye Curse and ends camp healthy has the best chance to make final cut.

6 LB's for 3 spots? Highly unlikely.

I think Dzubnar and McCoil are on the bubble and both may be on the outside once we get to 53.

King gives us flexibility to have one less "official" safety on the roster. I think we have to be open to Michael Davis possibly making the team at CB. McCoil goes to PS once he clears waivers.

Also, i believe Emanuel needs a very good camp or he may be looking on the outside as well. I am sure TT will be watching the camp cuts for a possible upgrade of Dzubnar/Emanuel.

Interesting that we did not draft any LBs.
Gus must like Toomer & Perry.
