He plays three more seasons easily and when they draft his replacement next year, he will sit two seasons. Rivers is 35 and won't be 36 till the seasons near over.

Why do we need a project? You can get a backup anywhere in the offseason, its just too bad they decided to keep Clemens. Hec id rather they signed Barkley. At least he is young and started a few games last year and wasnt bad. Better than anything Clemens would do. Clemens imo is a train wreck and barely an upgrade to Whitehurst.

J.Evans could still be valuable as a backup project and possible trade bait next year.I think it's a total win win.

I guess the Chargers feel good about Rivers the same way that the Saints feel about Brees (who's older and had a less durable history). Rivers has been an Iron Man over the years, even when he had the worst oline in the league. I feel confident if our recent picks worked out, he'll play out the rest of his contract without a problem.

That being said, I wasn't opposed to picking up a project this year. And I wouldn't mind grooming a replacement next year when the QB class is better. This way his replacement will have two years to learn on the bench (much like Rivers did behind Brees).
