Fix our weaknesses through draft/free agency this offseason, QB not being one of them (maybe a better backup than Clemens would be good). We are not far off from being a very good team.

Identify the quarterback we want in the 2019 draft and do whatever we need to get him. He can sit behind Rivers for a year and take over in 2020.
This is the most reasonable perspective. QB is not our weakness.

Cowherd keeps harping about how Rivers has had to "carry the team" all these years. That the team moved to L.A. That he got another new coach. That he hasn't had a good ground game. Okay, so how does this generalization translate into on the field performance? Does it mean when Rivers and the Bolts are trailing in the 4th quarter that he has to "carry the team" by playing "hero ball" and slinging the rock into coverage for picks that lose us games? Okay, so we don't have a road-grading O-line. Then at least, for crying out loud, dink and dunk with the short pass, which was working, instead of forcing the rock into coverage.

26th in rushing since 2006. LT was on bench when it mattered the most.

when your turn to draft comes and a QB of your liking is there, take him. "Identify someone in 2019" is a pipe dream that doesnt even work in fantasy football.

Not really.. We have quite a strong roster that is also pretty young. If we draft well this offseason we can have a very capable roster heading into the 2019 season.. Then we can package a few of our picks to move up in the 1st and get who we want.

Of course it doesn't always work out like that but it should be the plan. We are fine with Rivers next year, giving our QB of the future a year to sit and learn behind Rivers in 2019 would be ideal, instead of drafting one once Rivers decides to hang them up and we get desperate and jump on anyone.

we are in the middle of the pack now. a year from now if we improve at all the draft position will slip even more. a couple of our picks is not going to cut it moving up. price of a QB is multiple 1st and 2nds and players. You're better off drafting one when your turn comes and not gut your franchse of multiple years without high picks.
